Why you recognised detective Olivia on EastEnders amid Hunter Owen siege drama

EastEnders viewers were treated to dramatic scenes on Friday night, as Hunter Owen took several residents hostage in The Queen Vic.

It wasn't long before armed police officers and detectives made their way to Walford in an attempt to stop the siege.

A gun had gone off in the pub, with it not confirmed until Friday's episode that it was Ben Mitchell who had been shot.

With him in a bad way, Callum Highway, Sonia Fowler and those in the pub tried to encourage Hunter to let them call for help.

Outside, hostage negotiator Olivia phoned the pub in hope of making contact with killer teen Hunter.

Hunter sent Whitney Dean to answer the phone, with Olivia asking her to confirm any injuries. Whit revealed Ben had been shot but was alive, with the detective then wanting to speak with Hunter.

But the teen insisted she'd have to call his mum Mel's phone if they wanted to talk, which she eventually did.

As the pair talked, Hunter ended up losing his cool over her claims she cared about him and could help him, just as those in the pub were shouting at him.

He ended up ending the call before dragging pregnant Louise Mitchell outside the pub as a hostage, hoping to flee.

The episode ended in emotional scenes though, as Hunter ended up getting shot by armed officers as he attempted to kill his ex Louise.

Those watching the drama may have recognised the actress who plays detective Olivia, Emma Stansfield.

She's appeared in a number of big TV roles including Doctors, Call the Midwife, Casualty and Endeavour.

Emma has also starred in The Bill, Heartbeat, Skins and, possibly one of her most familiar roles, she played Ronnie Clayton on Coronation Street between 2005 and 2006.

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
