And praise has been given to lead actress Shira Haas for her "phenomenal" performance.
So who is Shira, and who stars alongside her in the drama?

Shira Haas – (Esther Shapiro)
Shira Haas plays Esther Shapiro (Etsy), the show's main character, who decides to leave the Jewish community she grew up in Brooklyn, for a new life in Berlin.
She is running away from her arranged marriage and strict religious life as an Orthodox Jew.
Shira has had roles in The Zookeeper's Wife, Broken Mirrors, and TV series including The Conductor and Harem.
Amit Rahav – (Yanky Shapiro)
Amit Rahav plays Yanky Shapiro, who is Esther's husband in the show.
He has starred in The Dig, Wild Horses and The Damned.
Rahav is 24 years old and has a decent social media following, with his Instagram account consisting of 30,000 followers.
Alex Reid – (Leah Mandelbaum)
Alex Reid plays Leah Mandelbaum, who is Esther's Mum.
Reid is an English actress who trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.
She has previously had roles in E4 show Misfits and ITV's SAS drama, Ultimate Force.
Ronit Asheri – (Maika Schwartz)
Ronit Asheri plays Maika Schwartz, Esther's aunt.
Asheri is an actress and singer, but considers herself more of a singer as she has been singing for the past 15 years.
She was born in Israel but currently lives in New York with her parents.
Gera Sandler – (Mordecai Schwartz)
Gera Sandler plays Moredecai, Esther's father.
Sandler is an actor, stage director and TV personality.
He is best known for his role in Timrot Ashan, in which he plays Ivgeny Kilimnik.
Dina Doron – (Babby)
Dina Doron plays Babby, Esther's grandmother.
Doron is Jewish but moved to New York in the 1950's to study theatre and dance.
Her American theatre debut was on Broadway as Anne Frank in the play The Diary of Anne Frank.
Aaron Altaras – (Robert)
Aaron Altaras plays Robert, a man who Esther meets when she arrives in Berlin.
Altaras's mother was also an actress and his father was a composer.
The German actor has appeared in up-to 20 movies and TV shows in his native country.
Unorthodox is loosely-based on Deborah Feldman's 2012 autobiography Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection Of My Hasidic Roots.
