Who plays Aggie Bailey in Coronation Street and what else has she been in?

The Bailey family are about to make their mark in Coronation Street, as they debut in Weatherfield on Monday night.

The clan, who are the first black family to become a regular part of the soap, are set to move into No 3 – and will waste no time in causing chaos when dad of the family, Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) is mistaken for one of the house builders by Ken Barlow (William Roache) and he decides to play along.

With Ed having made a pretty memorable debut you can also expect the others to make an impact – especially family matriarch Aggie, who has a pretty big personality.

But who plays Aggie, and where have you seen her before?

Here’s what you need to know…

Who plays Aggie Bailey in Coronation Street and where have you seen her before?

Aggie Bailey is played in Coronation Street by actress Lorna Laidlaw.

The 56-year-old, who has acted in various shows including Playing The Field, Emmerdale and CBeebies show Grandpa In My Pocket, is best known to soap fans for her role as Mrs Tembe in Doctors.

Lorna appeared in the show from 2011-2019, with the character beginning as receptionist at The Mill, before becoming the Acting Practice Manager in 2015 and the Practice Manager in 2016.

Mrs Tembe, who was from Botswana and had strong Christian beliefs, faced some challenging storylines during her time in Doctors, from bullying in the workplace to a car crash and grief after two of her colleagues died.

She left after becoming engaged to Reverend Gordon – who helped her regain her faith after she lost it following the aforementioned car accident – and leaving The Mill to move to Newcastle and work for a children’s charity.

‘The character was just fantastic but I think I’d done as much as I possibly could with her at that moment,’ Lorna said of her decision to leave.

Who else is in the Bailey family?

As well as Ed and Aggie, their two sons will, James and Michael will also be moving on to the cobbles.

James is played by actor Nathan Graham while Michael is played by former CBeebies star Ryan Russell – with his character quickly taking a shine to Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh).

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 7.30pm.
