Sex Education season three is on Netflix now and fans are desperate for answers regarding Otis (played by Asa Butterfield) and Maeve’s (Emma Mackey) relationship. The pair faced plenty more challenges presented at Moordale High and a number of new characters have been introduced. Here’s all you need to know about Cal and the rest of the new cast.
Who is Cal in Sex Education season 3?
The new season turns attention away from the Otis and Maeve relationship as it explores new poignant themes.
With Mr Groff (Alistair Petrie) having been forced out as the school’s headmaster, Moordale has come under new leadership.
One of the rules instilled upon students is the introduction of school uniform, something that non-binary student Cal finds hard to accept.
Cal’s identity is something that is heavily explored in the upcoming season, and they are played by Dua Saleh.
Saleh is a recording artist, songwriter, poet, and actor who released their first music demo in 2017.

Saleh’s first open mic night was in their senior year at high school and they used poetry to process personal experiences.
Sex Education marks their first huge acting role and fans are excited to explore Cal as a character.
The star is on Instagram and they said: “Hey besties see my acting debut as cal in sex education – Sept 17.”
A teaser for season three was shared and Cal was not willing to say anything positive about the high school.
The actor teased: “Hmmm I wonder why Ca’s being so quiet about Moordale reopening.”
In season three, Cal is expected to clash with the new headteacher, Hope (Jemima Kirke), over her new rules.
They also form an unexpected friendship with former head boy, Jackson Marchetti (Kedar Williams-Stirling).
Cal is a pivotal character when it comes to exploring the concept of student identity and its importance.
Hope will make it her mission to create the perfect learning environment, at the cost of the school’s real values.
Fans took to Saleh’s Instagram to share their thoughts on the character, with one saying: “Cannot WAIT to meet Cal!”
Who has joined the cast for Sex Education season 3?
Hope – Jemima Kirke
Hope has come in to replace Mr Groff as the school’s headteacher and she comes across as cool and collected.
The former Moordale student is the youngest headteacher in the country and she has a very specific action plan for Moordale.
Actress Jemima Kirke is a 36-year-old English-American actress and director who is known for her role as Jessa Johansson in HBO’s Girls.
She is also known for her roles in Maniac and the film Sylvie’s Voice and has landed a main role in the 2022 series Conversations with Friends.
Peter Groff – Jason Isaacs
Peter Groff is Michael’s older brother and the pair did not have the best relationship as children.
With Mr Groff losing his job and his family, he calls upon Peter as a last resort and it does not go down well.
However, he learns a lot about himself through his obnoxious older brother.
Peter is played by Jason Isaacs, a 58-year-old actor known for his roles in Black Hawk Down and as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films.
He also played Captain Hook in the 2003 film Peter Pan.
