Viola Lloyd or Lady of Bly is portrayed by American actress Kate Siegel.

In The Haunting of Bly Manor, the figure of Viola was the heart of the curse plaguing the estate as she dragged her victims into the lake to die.

While the original curse seemed to be broken with Viola eventually releasing all the souls doomed to wander the halls of the manor, American nanny Dani Clayton (played by Victoria Pedretti) was still haunted by the events she’d witnessed there.

To make matters worse, she would always seemed to be called upon by Viola whenever she was near water.

Eventually, Dani went back to Bly Manor where she drowned herself and took Viola’s place as the new Lady and so the curse simply repeated itself.

The 38-year-old actress hails from Silver Spring, Maryland and is married to The Haunting of Bly Manor’s showrunner Mike Flannagan.

The Netflix series is just the latest collaboration between the husband and wife duo with the pair previously working on the filmmaker’s projects Hush and Oculus.

As well as acting, Siegel also co-wrote Ouija: Origin of Evil and Gerald’s Game with Flanagan.

She also appeared in The Haunting of Hill House as Theodora Crain, so this isn’t her first time in the Netflix franchise.

Flanagan and Siegel tied the knot in 2016 and the couple have two children together, a son and a daughter.

She is also the stepmother to Flanagan’s son from his relationship with actress Courtney Bell.

Along with her work with Flanagan, she has starred in many other films after she made her debut in 2007’s The Curse of The Black Dahila.

Some of her other roles have included Hawaii Five-0, Dead Room: Origins, Demon Legacy and Man Camp.

According to IMDb, she will next be appearing in the TV series Midnight Mass which is in pre-production.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Siegel opened up about Bly Manor, saying: “What’s most shocking about season two is that it’s completely different.”

She continued: “If season one about ghosts and trauma then season two is about love and envy and loss.”

Siegel revealed the writers’ room pitched the idea for Viola with a fully fleshed idea for the eighth episode, which was the one focusing on the Lady of Bly.

Reflecting on the conclusion of the show, where Dani was now in the lake, Siegel said like she felt it was the “correct ending for Viola”.

She said: “Because she really is a monster, let’s not forget, even though she loves her daughter completely and would have done anything including kill lots and lots of people.

“But at the end, when she sees she’s come between another true love story, I think she leaves.

“I think she realises she has to give it up because she is hurting the very thing she was fighting for, which is true love.”
