Although the historical drama series was filled with heaps of cold-blooded killings, season six saw the most brutal death of all – Bjorn Ironside’s (played by Alexander Ludwig). After a key Vikings clue was unveiled, fans believe that his murderer may in fact regret killing him.

Throughout the series, Bjorn and Ivar’s lifelong feud was portrayed to fans as a battle for power and it was something that began with their father.

The two were, in fact, half-brothers and after their father, Ragnar Lodbrok (Travis Fimmel) cheated on Bjorn’s mother Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) with Ivar’s mother Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) they have had it in for each other.

Aslaug and Lagertha even despised one another and tried to murder each other in season four.

Bjorn and Ivar finally came head-to-head in season six after the battle of Kattegat.

Ivar could be regarded as one of the worst kings in the series, by destroying everything good that Ragnar had created in Kattegat.

He even closed off Kattegat from the rest of the World and manipulated its people into believing that foreigners were their greatest threats.

When people began rebelling and protesting his oppressive rule, he began burning them alive.

This anger was then directed towards Bjorn more than ever, when his half-brother won the Battle for the kingdom of Kattegat with King Herald (Peter Franzén)

After the epic battle, Ivar became jealous and full of rage and after a huge argument, he took his sword and pierced Bjorn, leaving him for dead.

The newly appointed king initially survived his wounds and died after getting revenge on his enemies.

Ivar’s youngest brother Sigurd Ragnarsson (David Lindström) also met his demise at the hand of the power-hungry Viking.

The two also had a long-running feud and after a heated argument in season four, Ivar threw an axe at his brother which penetrated his abdomen, after Sigurd took it out and tried to attack him back, he fell to his death.

Fans believe that Ivar regrets killing Bjorn and Sigurd, one viewer took to screenrant.com and shared their theory.

They posted: “Although Ivar ruthlessly kills both Sigurd and Bjorn, it is ambiguous whether he actually regrets it or not, and based on his personality, most fans would argue that he doesn’t even care.

“Nevertheless, when he killed Sigurd because he insulted him, Ivar appears to cry in remorse,” they explained

The viewer added: “Similarly, although he didn’t have a different option with Bjorn, he seems to regret killing him based on his facial expression afterwards as well as their previous connection in the series where Ivar held Bjorn in high regard.”

As well as expressing regret for murdering his brothers, Ivar may have had the opportunity to connect with Bjorn if it wasn’t for their mother’s feud.

Also their father Ragnar seemed to favour Bjorn and only showed care towards Ivar when he started to ruin Kattegat.

Ivar even apologised to the family for killing Sigurd, claiming it was an accident stating,” He made me kill him. He taunted me, he made fun of me.”
