Top Gear viewers were left feeling rather moved as presenter Paddy McGuinness met his childhood hero Eddie Kidd.

The popular BBC series returned to screens on Sunday night with viewers excited to see what was in store.

But as the programme continued most avid spectators noticed that Top gear introduced a documented segment that provided further insight into former stuntman Eddie and his life.

Paying tribute to the daredevil, Paddy took viewers on a journey of Eddie's miraculous achievements and also ended up meeting Eddie, who is now paralysed.

Seeing the touching scenes unfold, Top Gear fans rushed to Twitter to share thier thoughts.

One fan penned: "This is such an emotional feature. Bless Eddie Kidd."

Another said: "Didn't really know much about Eddie The Kidd before tonight but that tribute to his career was emotional and beautiful."

A third spectator also agreed and wrote: "I did not sign up for this level of emotion on a Sunday evening #TopGear unbelievable Eddie Kidd segment @PaddyMcGuinness you should be proud of that one."

A fourth chimed: "Wow that Eddie Kidd tribute was amazingly well done. Credit to @PaddyMcGuinnessboth inspirational and emotional piece of TV."

"Just caught up the Eddie Kidd tribute on #TopGear. Never realised he hadn’t even broken a bone before the fall that ended his career, unlike Evel Knievel who was never out of hospital. Just shows how good he really was," a fifth fan added.

Speaking about when he finally got to meet Eddie, comedian Paddy said: "When you're talking to him, you totally still see that glint in his eye.

"It's nice that we can do stuff like that on Top Gear. It takes you (away from) us being outlandish and doing silly stunts or what have you."

He then finished off by saying: "In the film he trolls me quite a lot. He's really sharp – and I didn't care what he said to me or if he took the mickey out of me."
