With a 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, this stand-up special is not to be missed! The politically inclined Wanda Sykes delivers on two fronts: her jokes are thoughtful and raw, yet her physical humor is just as entertaining.
Sykes discusses aging, our current political climate, male and female differences, and more in a way that is light, yet explorative. You’ll laugh out loud as you ponder. Wanda Sykes, as always, does not shy away from dangerous territories; rather, she traverses them with grace, for her jokes never feel “heavy-handed.”
Ellen DeGeneres: ‘Relatable’
Ellen DeGeneres’ Relatable may possess less laugh out loud moments than many would desire, but she definitely knows how to conjure a sense of satisfaction. The comedy is very “smirk and giggle:” her jokes are pensive and self-reflective. She’s witty, quick, and genuine.
In line with her brand, her special remains on the light side, never veering into the darkness that other stand-up comedians often dare to traverse. Hisan Minhaj has this appealing way about him: he is high energy, he is loud, but not berating. While his stage presence is enough to carry him, his jokes do not lack intelligence. The thought put into the special is clear, but his delivery is light and uplifting.

Amy Schumer has done it again, but the approach is a bit different this time around. Though usually making sex jokes, now she’s covering marriage, pregnancy, and aging! And she’s doing it with the same amount of raunch fans love her for.
Amy Schumer’s Growing is filthy, yet manages to be quite inspiring at the same time. If you can’t handle a comedian who is more than willing to “go there,” than Amy Schumer isn’t for you. However, if you’re willing to laugh at anything as long as it’s funny, Growing will have you in tears.
Kevin Hart: ‘Irresponsible’
Kevin Hart’s Irresponsible takes comedy into the household; from marriage and kids to keeping the house together, the show is, first and foremost, relatable. While it’s quite funny, some critics argue that he doesn’t quite “go over the line” like he used to, but he definitely gets close.
Kevin Hart is energetic, and he keeps you engaged. Irresponsible is definitely worth your time if you’re a fan of the comedian’s previous work.
