The guilt of the murder of his wife Chantelle is well and truly under the skin of EastEnders killer Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith).
Since the monstrous abuser took her life and then covered it up, he has been living a lie and the trauma of what he did has manifested itself in angry outbursts and shocking displays in court that nearly left Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) without any hope.
Tonight, the pressure mounted for him and he found himself raging at Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) when she cleared up for him and accidentally washed Chantelle’s mug.
As he arrived at Whitney’s trial to deliver his closing speech in the nick of time, a dishevelled Gray was practically speaking about himself as he told the jury about what a monster Leo was and how Whitney couldn’t be blamed for fighting back against such a violent man.
As he said that the one who should be on trial should be Leo, realisation dawned on him that he should himself be punishing him.
As Whitney thanked him, he asked her outright if she regretted going to the police but Whitney admitted that some things always catch up with you – she had no choice.
As he took Whitney’s words in, it seemed like Gray had decided to confess.
Is he going to hand himself in – or will he change his mind?
