Rick Astley to be dragged to court in row over £800,000 London apartment

EIGHTIES pop heart-throb Rick Astley is being taken to court in a row over an £800,000 apartment.

The 54-year-old crooner — made a worldwide star by his hit Never Gonna Give You Up — is being sued by the owner of a leasehold flat.

Cornelia Rang has offered £24,000 to increase her 79-year lease by 90 years.

But a lawyer for freeholder Rick, who owns the land in South Kensington, West London, branded it “so unrealistically low that it may be inferred that it was not a bona fide, or genuine, or realistic offer”.

Ms Rang’s lawyer asked Judge Simon Freeland to strike out Rick’s defence to her case at Central London county court.

But the judge refused and adjourned the case, which will now go ahead at a later date.

Rick has amassed an estimated £12million fortune from investments since his heyday.

His solo debut topped the UK charts for five weeks in 1988.

It was the year’s biggest-selling single here and in 24 other countries, including the US. He went on to have 12 further Top 30 hits including Whenever You Need Somebody.

In 2007, Rick found fame again with the spread of the bizarre viral internet craze called Rickrolling.

Web users were tricked into seeing the video for Never Gonna Give You Up with faked links.

The global fad boosted views of the video to hundreds of millions.
Rick met his film producer wife Lene in 1988.

They live in East Molesey, Surrey, near Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace, and have a daughter who lives in Denmark.
