Teresa Mendoza’s (played by Alice Braga) rise to power will come to an explosive conclusion on the USA Network next month. As fans wait for the final instalment of Queen of the South to hit screens, there has been speculation that some familiar faces could return to take on the queenpin in New Orleans.
The fifth and final season of the hit USA Network series Queen of the South could feature the return of the formidable Vargas crime syndicate.
Season four already concluded with the shocking return of Teresa’s former handler and partner-in-crime, James Valdez (Peter Gadiot).
Now the series is confirmed to be ending with its forthcoming fifth instalment, James’ presence could signal the arrival of their old foe, Camila Vargas (Veronica Falcón).
Moreover, some fans believe Camila’s tempestuous daughter, Isabela (Sandy Valles) could play a major role in Queen of the South’s final chapter.
Reluctant to join the family’s criminal enterprise, Isabela was last seen being driven to freedom at the end of season three.
Similarly, Teresa also drove her mother into exile during the same instalment when she exposed her old employer’s plans to take her out.
Their stories appear to be over for the time being, and Teresa has now left her old life behind her to expand her own operation in New Orleans.
However, fans believe it would be a missed opportunity if the series’ last ever season failed to bring back the queen’s fiercest rivals.
One fan took to Reddit to question if one of Teresa’s lackeys briefly glimpsed in the flashforward at the beginning of the pilot could actually be Isabela.
They posted: “I am doing a rewatch again, and in the pilot when Teresa is walking out of the helicopter there is a woman walking with her.
“Who do you think it is? I’m wondering if Isabela is going to come back into play.”
In addition to her loyal sicario Pote (Hemky Madera), Teresa is flanked by an unnamed woman wearing sunglasses in the brief scene that kicks off Queen of the South’s first episode.

Although other fans were quick to point out the character is played by a different actress, there’s still a chance this could be an aged up Isabela.
One commenter replied: “The woman coming off the helicopter in the pilot episode is not Isabella.”
Even so, the original poster suggested Isabela is destined to make her return to the series following her candid conversation with Camila at the start of season three.
They explained: “I remember the scene in the orphanage where Camila tells her something along the lines of the business may someday fall to her.”
“But I dunno. I liked Isabela and hope she comes back in season five.”
Unfortunately, this fan appeared to be in the minority as others expressed their dislike for Isabela’s bratty attitude in past episodes.
Another viewer hit back: “Everytime she came on screen I wanted to fast forward the scene.
“The actress was too cringy for me and the character came off as immature and annoying.”
While the Vargas’ involvement, if any, in the fifth season remains a mystery, could the notorious crime family finally return to take revenge on Teresa in the Big Easy?
Queen of the South season 5 premieres Wednesday, April 7 on the USA Network.
