Priya's family plead with Love Island trolls to stop sending 'unacceptable racist abuse' after she's targeted online

LOVE Island star Priya Gopaldas has received "unacceptable" racist abuse just three days after joining the ITV2 show.

The 23-year-old's family and friends hit out on Instagram after the medical student was trashed online for choosing Brett Staniland over Mathew McNaab in the latest recoupling.

Northern Irish hunk Matt was sent home and Priya was seen in tears following her decision.

Soon after the dramatic scenes a message appeared on Priya's Instagram stories, as her friends wrote: "Morning all.

"We understand everyone has their own views on what happens on the show.

"However we need to remind you guys that racist comments and trolling is unacceptable!

"Please remember to be kind. Thank you to all the lovely messages that have been sent supporting Priya. Priya's gals xxx."

A statement from Love Island producers quickly followed the post.

Producers wrote: "We want Love Island to be a positive experience for all of our cast and their friends and family members."

Priya is a fifth year medical student at University College London and worked on the Covid-19 Intensive Care Unit in early 2021.

She volunteered her services on the Covid ward when students were contacted asking if they could help with the increasing cases.

The reality TV newcomer worked six day, 12 hour night shifts, supporting doctors and nurses in the understaffed department.

She sent shockwaves through the Love Island villa on Wednesday night when she chose to save bombshell Brett over Matt.

She is beautiful…

The marketing manager was convinced they had made a strong connection, telling viewers in the beach hut: "There’s so much substance in her conversations and she is beautiful.

"I was looking at her eyes and I was like, holy s***! Even in the gym there, I was like, this is like a carbon copy of me!

"What’s coming across to me is she’s ambitious, she’s very caring, she’s spontaneous, she’s very smart.

"The more I talk to her the more I’m learning and like, 'Woah this is getting stronger.'"
