Power Book III: Raising Kanan will follow in the footsteps of the original Power drama and Power Book II: Ghost. The first spin-off came out in September 2020 and has already been renewed by Starz for another series. Now it’s time for Book III and the story of Kanan Stark (played by Curtis Jackson).
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from the Power franchise.
Kanan was one of the main antagonists during Power, determined to seek his revenge against James “Ghost” St Patrick (Omari Hardwick).
He was responsible for setting up Kanan and putting him behind bars for several years so it’s no wonder he wanted payback.
Prior to Power though, the pair had once been very good friends, having grown up together.
The forthcoming prequel series will delve deeper into Kanan as well as the rest of the gang’s pasts.
How many episodes are in Raising Kanan?
Raising Kanan will be the second out of four spin-off shows to come from the Power universe.
The new series is going to follow in the footsteps of Power Book II in terms of its episode count.
Starz has commissioned Power Book III to be made up of a total of 10 episodes.
So far, the network hasn’t revealed what each of these episode titles is going to be.
For Power Book II, the name of every episode had something to do with one of the books Tariq was reading in class, with the teen experiencing a similar moral dilemma in real life.
Creator Courtney Kemp said in an Instagram Q&A that his studies are going to be about ethics with a Canonical Studies class, so this may be the focus for series two.
But it’s unclear what the concept is going to be at this stage for every instalment of Power Book III and if Kemp will follow a similar pattern.
Another question that is playing on fans’ minds is the drama’s release date.

An official premiere date for Raising Kanan hasn’t been announced by Starz.
The network has said the show will begin in the summer of 2021 but no further details have been released.
Book III is expected to come out before the second series of Book II begins.
As Ghost started in September last year, this may be the case again and so Raising Kanan could begin earlier.
Book III isn’t the only spin-off show fans have got to look forward to.
Power Book IV: Force which will follow Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) as he makes the move to Chicago.
Meanwhile, Power Book V: Influence is going to stay put in New York so viewers can see what Councilman Rashad Tate (Larenz Tate) gets up to.
The Power franchise is available to watch on Starz.
