Piers Morgan says he ‘wanted to headbutt’ Alex Beresford after GMB clash

Piers Morgan wanted to headbutt Alex Beresford during their bust-up on Good Morning Britain.

The pair clashed in a row over mental health on the ITV show earlier this year.

When Mr Morgan, 56, started getting a lecture from weatherman Alex, 40, he stormed off set in anger.

And he has now admitted he had to walk out to avoid things turning nasty.

Mr Morgan told the Daily Star: “I shouldn’t have walked off the show when I did.

“Walking off because the deputy stand-in weather guy says something annoying… I wasn’t quite in control of my faculties.

“It was either that or give him a Glasgow kiss. I decided that wouldn’t go down very well.”

The row was so toxic Mr Morgan quit the breakfast show within hours.

And months on, there is still bad blood between him and Alex.

He said: “I haven’t spoken to Alex since then. He was annoying enough when I worked with him.

“Why would I bother now?”

Good Morning Britain has suffered a ratings crisis since Mr Morgan left.

But he has warned ITV there is no chance of him going back.

He added: “I don’t have any regrets about leaving the show. One of the privileges of not doing it is I haven’t got to get out of bed that early. So I don’t watch it that often.

“But if they’ve got something big, I’ll watch it. I want them to be successful. It’s a show I put my heart and soul into for five years. So I don’t want it to fail.

“But obviously it’s a different show without me and they’ll have to somehow struggle through."

Mr Morgan was braced for an Ofcom probe over his comments on the show when scores of viewers complained.

But earlier this month the media watchdog ruled no rules were breached.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
