Peloton says bike ‘delayed’ Sex And The City death in response to shock twist

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the first two episodes of And Just Like That…

Peloton has issued a statement after fans were dealt with quite the shock death as they sat down to watch the first two episodes of the Sex And The City spin-off, And Just Like That.

After rumours kept swirling of a major tragedy ahead in the new series, viewers’ worst fears were confirmed this week.

Those watching witnessed Mr Big (Chris Noth) die of a sudden heart attack after being seen working out a Peloton exercise bike.

‘And just like that, Big was dead,’ we hear Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) voiceover as the episode cuts to credits.

But shortly after the episodes aired, Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, a cardiologist and a member of Peloton’s Health & Wellness Advisory Council, issued a statement to US Weekly in response to the death of the beloved character.

She took the opportunity to reassure those watching that Mr Big’s death was likely delayed by his usage of the popular Peloton, rather than caused by it.

A big fan of the show herself, Dr Steinbaum said: ‘I’m sure SATC fans, like me, are saddened by the news that Mr. Big dies of a heart attack.’

‘Mr. Big lived what many would call an extravagant lifestyle — including cocktails, cigars, and big steaks — and was at serious risk as he had a previous cardiac event,’ she continued.

He famously dealt with heart issues in season six, and the spin-off opener saw him die in Carrie’s arms.

‘These lifestyle choices and perhaps even his family history, which often is a significant factor, were the likely cause of his death. Riding his Peloton bike may have even helped delay his cardiac event,’ she added.

She went on to remind fans that ‘more than 80 percent of all cardiac-related deaths are preventable’ through healthier lifestyle changes.

‘While 25 percent of heart attacks each year are in patients who already had one (like Mr. Big), even then they are very, very treatable,’ she continued.

‘It’s always important to talk to your doctor, get tested, and have a healthy prevention strategy. The good news is Peloton helps you track heart rate while you ride, so you can do it safely,’ she said.

Of course, fans were in shock over the show’s decision to kill off the love of Carrie’s life so early on into the spin-off.

Writing on Twitter, one fan shared: ‘Excuse me??  I did not waste six years of my life with Carrie and Big’s off and on relationships AND wait all of these years for it to end like this.. Absolutely Not!!!  #AndJustLikeThat #sexandthecity

‘Welp, there goes my #Peleton stock. Lol #AndJustLikeThat,’ joked someone else watching.

Another said: ‘I know they didn’t just take Big like that, why I’m crying like it’s really real??! #sexandthecity.’

‘#AndJustLikeThat Mr. Big died. I don’t like that. How you start the 1st season like that. This ain’t right @hbomax #sexandthecity,’ said a saddened viewer.

And Just Like That airs on Sky Comedy and is available to stream on NOW.
