Shortly after Matt Lucas was announced as the new presenter of Great British Bake Off for 2020, the show revealed the first look at Matt in action with his co-host Noel Fielding on Twitter.
The Little Britain star jokes in the clip that if he brought his mum to set, she would follow him around the tent warning him off eating the many sweet treats on display.
He tells Noel: ‘If my mum came along, she would just follow me around going, “Matt don’t eat that! Matt don’t, I’m serious, don’t.”‘
Matt and Noel also rehearse introducing one of the challenges, with the actor offering his own take on how he would tell the contestants to get baking.
Getting into presenter mode he continues: ‘The judges want you to make twenty four yeasted festival buns.’
As he delivers the now iconic ‘bake’ line, Noel dissolves into fits of laughter, proving that this is going to be an inspired – and incredibly watchable – pairing.
‘That was the moment,’ Noel jokes.
Matt adds as the clip ends that he has ‘got a lot of work to do’, but we think he’ll be fine.
The comedian is replacing Sandi Toksvig, who quit in January, and joins judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood in the next series.
He marked the occasion with a throwback to Little Britain, his sketch show with David Walliams, and tweeted a picture of himself as character Majorie Dawes carrying a tray of buns.
He simply captioned the tweet: ‘Mood’.
The 46-year-old enthused: ‘I’m chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television.
‘I can’t wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers. And bearing in mind my love of cake, I’ve already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation. See you in the tent!’
The Great British Bake Off airs later this year on Channel 4.
