NCIS is currently airing its 18th season on Tuesdays on CBS as viewers get stuck back into the criminal procedural. However, some fans might be wanting to know a little bit more about the actor behind the role as well, including how old he is. Here’s everything you need to know about this.

How old is NCIS star Mark Harmon?

NCIS fans love Harmon’s performance as the stoic head of the team on the long-running drama.

He has appeared in the series since it first started back in 2003 in the show’s backdoor pilot on JAG.

Since then, viewers have followed him through various ups and downs as the head of the criminal investigation unit.

However, some fans still want to know a bit more about the star, from his age to his acting history.

Harmon is 69-years-old, having been born in Burbank, California on September 2, 1951.

He is the youngest of three children born to broadcaster Tom Harmon and model Elyse Knox.

The actor first began his acting career back in 1970 when he landed his first on-screen role on Ozzie’s Girls.

He went on to appear in series like Laverne and Shirley, Flamingo Road and Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years.

Harmon then came to major fame in 1983 when he began playing the role of Robert Caldwell in St Elsewhere.

He starred in the show for three years before his exit in 1986.

At this time, he was also crowned People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive.

Other roles which viewers are likely to know him from include films like The Presidio and Stealing Home as well as a recurring role in The West Wing.

However, nowadays people are likely to recognise the star best for his role as Gibbs in NCIS.

Given the actor’s longevity on the series, many have also been left wondering if his character could retire any time soon.

Nothing has been confirmed about this yet but there have been some mentions about Gibbs’ future on the team.

Back in season 16, he opened up to his therapist about if he should retire.

While he was against the idea then, it seems like the question is not completely off the table.

Speaking about what would make him leave the series behind, Harmon spoke to People back in 2019.

He explained: “I’ve always thought if there’s ever a time where the writers are walking into the room and going ‘I don’t know what to do,’ then I think we all have to look at each other and call it a day. But we’re not there yet.”

Therefore, it seems like fans will be able to enjoy Harmon’s performance for a while longer yet.
