Love Island favourite Liberty Poole has opened up on her devastating break-up with Jake Cornish and their decision to exit the villa as a pair during the latest instalment.

The Birmingham beauty, 21, had the country and her fellow Islanders sobbing as she explained hers and Jake’s reasons for departing ahead of the final on Monday.

Having now left the show, the former student has revealed she thinks the hardest challenges as a couple were the fact that the villa had so much “temptation”, as she also admitted movie night had been the start of their downfall.

“The clips hurt me, what was said, and I sort of swept it under the carpet and didn’t address it properly and one thing led to another, where it just became a bigger issue,” Liberty explained.

“And then we found out there were differences between us in how we see things and communicated about things.

“We just weren’t communicating in the same way we used to.”

The heartbroken beauty insisted she was “in love” with Weston-Super-Mare water engineer Jake, still is, and won’t be able to get over her feelings anytime soon.

“But I think, in the long run, I made the right decision,” the former contestant shared. “You have to put your own feelings first and to make yourself happy. And that is what I have done.”

Despite the fact the couple left the show united, Liberty admitted she and Jake couldn’t get through the challenges they faced.

“The hardest challenges are in the villa,” she went on.

“It is full of good-looking people and there is so much temptation.

“So I feel that if you can’t make it through the villa as a strong couple you won’t make it on the outside world, in there you face hard challenges and you are with people 24/7,” the star added.

It comes as the former couple spent their final night in the villa in separate beds, with Liberty choosing to sleep on the daybed with her best friend Kaz Kamwi.

As Jake took to the doghouse, fans picked up on the fact he had made the bizarre decision to sleep without a sheet on the mattress.

The duo, who were once affectionately known as Jiberty, still went on their final epic date, which saw them sailing the Spanish seas on a gigantic boat.

Sadly it didn't change the destination of their relationship and they came back to the villa ready to pack their bags and leave.

Love Island continues Sunday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox
