Sherif Lanre, 20, was booted off Love Island earlier this week for breaking vila rules.
The semi-pro rugby player was shown the back door when he was involved in an incident, but ITV failed to address the reasons why, with many viewers coming up with their own theories.
Speaking to The Sun, Sherif revealed the cause of his premature departure.
A play fight with fellow Islander Molly-Mae Hague ended with him accidentally kicking her in the groin and calling it a “c**t punt”.
He explained: “I did kick Molly-Mae in the groin area but it was an accident and she 100 per cent was not injured afterwards.
“She flinched and bent over to protect herself. Then she stood up and seemed fine and we started laughing about it.”
He added: “I turned to Tommy Fury and said, ‘That was a c*** punt.’”
However, after fans learned about Sherif’s account of the incident, many thought the cause of his departure was “pathetic”.
One wrote: “Is it just me or is the reason Sherif was kicked out of the villa pathetic? Like get a grip please Love Island – if the tables were turned it would be different.”
Another put: “I’m still in shock as to the real reason why Sherif got kicked out of.”
And a third was in agreement: “He didn’t deserve to get removed from the villa, seems like a genuine guy!”
Sherif revealed the whole thing has been “blown out of proportion” and “made him look like a terrible person”.
He also claimed TV bosses pressured him into signing a statement apologising and informed him not to speak about it once he had left the show.
Love Island airs tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.
