'Little People, Big World': Amy Roloff Saw Messages And Photos Exchanged Between Matt and Caryn Years Before They Split

Little People, Big World star Amy Roloff details in her new book, A Little Me, when she first began to suspect that her marriage was falling apart. She reveals that she found text messages sent between her husband, Matt Roloff, and their farm manager, Caryn Chandler, that were inappropriate for “people who just worked together and were still married to other people.”

As Little People, Big World began to really take off, Matt and Amy’s marriage did the opposite. Amy Roloff noticed that her husband was “spending more and more time at the tavern he often frequented in the evenings after filming and working on the farm.”

When Amy Roloff realized Matt was cheating on her with Caryn Chandler

And then it hit her all at once:

“Then it dawned on me. Matt and our farm manager, who had been working for us a number of years by then, seemed to have more than just a working relationship or friendship,” she wrote. “I saw messages, pictures, and other things that should not have been shared between people who just worked together and were still married to other people. I was devastated.”

Upon her realization, Amy Roloff made a conscious decision to bottle up her feelings for “several years.” She didn’t want to break up her family. But the secret wrecked her from the inside out.

“Because I didn’t say anything, my emotions and attitude came out in other unhealthy ways,” she recalled. “I took it out on Matt on camera sometimes instead of talking to him off camera, and that wasn’t right. I cried a lot over those next several years. I didn’t have a plan, and I didn’t know what to do.”

One of the reasons Amy Roloff didn’t openly discuss her suspicions is that she felt ashamed.

“I was scared and ashamed anything remotely like this could be happening. Was Matt really interested in someone else right in front of me? Why would he even go there when we were still married? I kept quiet over the years. I didn’t even think about divorce; I didn’t want it to be an option. I’ve never felt so alone, hurt, and betrayed in my life.”

The last straw

The two carried on married, acting like nothing was wrong on the surface, for the cameras and their family. But the A Little Me author writes that Matt would periodically exhibit bizarre behavior like when he abruptly left a family trip to Memphis, Tennessee only to return a few days later saying they needed to go home if they wanted to save their marriage. At the time, Amy Roloff was contractually obligated to stay, so she did. Leaving Amy, the kids, and the production team, Matt abruptly left once again.

Matt and Amy Roloff separated in November 2013. Fans learned of the separation in March 2014. In 2015, the couple filed for divorce and everything was finalized in 2016. The year following, Matt and Caryn Chandler went public with their relationship. In 2018, Caryn stopped working at Roloff Farm.
