Laura Hamilton had to fight back the tears during Wednesday's (January 5) instalment of A Place In The Sun as she delivered 'awful' news to a husband and wife searching for a home in Spain.
Couple Doc and Lucia were looking for a new property in the town of Alora in the region of Andalusia when they fell in love with one of the five houses presenter Laura had found for them.
But with their hearts set on a move, Laura was forced into breaking the news that a potential purchase had hit a major snag – the first of its kind during her 10 year tenure on the hit Channel 4 show.

With a budget of £110,000 for a minimum two-bedroom home, Laura guided the couple of 30 years through a first property, which was fully furnished, and deemed "peaceful" and "beautiful" by Lucia.
A second place was soon ruled out by Lucia, meanwhile, who described it as "dark" and not "very homely".
Intrigued by having a third bedroom, the trio visited a third property in the town centre, a townhouse which looked "less than impressive" from the outside.
It had its benefits, however, coming in at £8,000 under budget and including three bathrooms as well as three bedrooms.
But Doc soon admitted: "It feels like we have gone into a cave house," before his wife added: "It doesn't feel right. I'm just not feeling it."
A fourth home impressed the couple, meanwhile – again a three-bedroom place with living area, shower room, patio and lovely views – with Lucia exclaiming: "It's sort of blown my mind a bit as to the opportunities with this."
However, at £5,000 over budget and requiring more work than the first property, Doc and Lucia soon became reluctant.

That led to the all important fifth and final house, bang on budget with a rooftop swimming pool and remarkably, five bedrooms. Naturally the pair were keen to put an offer in.
The next day, however, Laura explained the bad news, saying: "Now I've got something I need to tell you which is a really, really, awful thing for me to have to do. I've never ever, in my 10 years of being part of this show, had to do this."
It turned out that a family member of the home owner had been authorised to take an offer from someone else, who had already put a deposit down.
Laura continued: "I am just so sorry, I am so sorry, God it's awful and I've been sitting here wondering how I break this to you because it's just awful. But things happen for a reason."
The episode was met with an unexpected happy ending, however, following news that the offer had fallen through – allowing Doc and Lucia to put in an offer, which was duly accepted.
