Discussing her new book A Queen for All Seasons, the Absolutely Fabulous star had been invited onto ITV’s This Morning where host Holly Willoughby quizzed the author about her “slip up” with Princess Anne. In 2005, the actress was recognised as a friend by the Prince of Wales after receiving an official invite to the royal highness’ wedding when marrying the Duchess of Cornwall. Unfortunately, close friendships with the Royal Family didn’t stop Princess Anne from making her feelings known towards the actor by giving her a “look” when she went against royal etiquette.
During her chat with Holly and Phillip Schofield on Monday’s This Morning the former asked: “Didn’t you have a bit of a slip-up?”
Trying to piece the story together, Holly questioned the actress further: “Was it with Princess Anne and a plate of biscuits?
“Didn’t something happen?” Holly continued.
Joanna was embarrassed when she recalled her awkward encounter with the Queen’s sister.
The pair had attended a charity event to which they were both patrons.
Joanna responded to the question: “The wonderful Farms for City Children, which is a charity I absolutely adore and I’m a patron of, was opening a new farm which is literally for city children to come.”
The activist also then stated: “Princess Anne is the patron.”
Farms for City Children is a charity that enables children from disadvantaged communities to work together on farms in the heart of the British countryside.
The national treasure attended the charity event and recalled how the children “buzzed around” in excitement.
However, she also recalled how Princess Anne observed everything and everyone around her.
Joanna revealed to Holly and Phillip: “Anne was being charming.
“She’s very astute, wildly clever and she notices everything,” the actress remembered.

Their awkward royal encounter began when someone brought around a tray of chocolate biscuits and offered them to both patrons.
The actress laughed when she said: “I was talking too much.”
She continued: “Somebody came with a tray of chocolate biscuits (and) because I’m senior to Princess Anne in age, nothing else, I would talk, talk, talk.
“And I got the biscuit just up to about there,” Joanna continued, miming holding the biscuit to her mouth.
However, the royal quickly put Joanna in her place as the Ab Fab star recalled: “And I saw her looking, I put it back.”
In disbelief, Phillip responded: “You put it back?”
“I put it back, having breathed on it. She gave me a bit of a look,” Joanna said before chuckling.
Both presenters were left in hysterics by the actress’ story.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
