Inside the ‘special relationship’ between Emmerdale’s Paige Sandhu and Rebecca Sarker

Most of us know Emmerdale actresses Paige Sandhu and Rebecca Sarker as on-screen sisters Meena Jutla and Manpreet Sharma. Between Meena sleeping with Manpreet's first husband and her meddling tendencies, it's fair to say their characters' relationship hasn't been the smoothest of sibling stories.

However, when it comes to their off-screen friendship, Paige describes the pair's connection as "special" and "sisterly."

In our exclusive Soap Stars Coming Clean interview with Paige, she revealed that she and Rebecca have "a really close bond."

She explained: "I still don’t know a lot of people in the cast because we’ve not been allowed in the same scenes. But I’ve got a really close bond with Rebecca."

When asked to elaborate, Paige said: "We have the same sense of humour and are very similar. We’re both quite private, low-key people who are more introverted than extroverted.

"She’s also a really kind and welcoming person. We just had an instant relationship that was really easy to build upon. She’s my closest friend at Emmerdale and that really helps with portraying that sisterly bond."

Paige went into more detail about the pair's friendship during a recent interview with OK! and other media outlets.

"Me and Rebecca are so close now – we're such good friends," she told us.

"I mean, I'm good friends with all of them, but I have a very special relationship with Rebecca," Paige added.

Emmerdale recently relaxed filming restrictions for some of the cast involved in Super Soap Week – including Paige and Rebecca – so Paige was also asked what it was like to be physically close to one another.

"We always go to hug, but then go, 'Oh, no we can't!' so it's sort of like this air hug. So, to finally be able to hug her was really nice.

"I was like 'God, you're so tiny. You're so tiny in my arms,'" she laughed.

Paige added that it was lovely to be close to co-stars such as Isabel Hodgins and Matthew Wolfenden too.

"It was really fun to be able to do close contact stuff in our acting. You can be more creative and find playful things and you have so much more freedom to play as an actor so that was my favourite thing."

Emmerdale continues on weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
