Sacha (played by Bob Barrett) is thrilled when he hears Essie’s (Kaye Wragg) wish to marry him and suggests they do it that day, refusing to waste time. But as Essie finally gets a hint of happiness, could it all end in heartache with the nurse dying on her wedding day?
In Tuesday’s episode of Holby City, viewers will see Sacha rush around trying to organise his nuptials to Essie as soon as possible.
Fortunately for the pair, Rabbi Stein (David Horovitch) is on hand to officiate the wedding leaving Sacha relieved.
Essie will have a heart to heart with the Rabbi asking if her cancer is punishment for her family’s last – her grandfather was a Nazi war criminal.
But it seems she will get her chance for some happiness as Dom Copeland (David Ames) finds her a wedding dress and agrees to do her hair and make-up.
Meanwhile, Sacha asks Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel) to be his “best man” and collect the couple’s rings.
Jac agrees to support Sacha while Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) is touched to be asked to walk Essie down the aisle.
Fans know Essie and Fletch have been by each other’s side as they have both battled with cancer in the past few months.
With the plans coming together, Sacha and the staff gather for the ceremony.
Fletch prepares to walk a very fragile Essie towards the faith room but it’s clear she is struggling.
Will she make it down the aisle to marry Sacha or will the day end in tragedy?
Speaking about the next step in Essie’s storyline, Kaye explained: “Essie’s suffered a lot of trauma in her life that’s left her on her own.
“She lost her parents, her grandfather was a Nazi war criminal, she couldn’t have children and her husband, Raf, was killed.

“For years, Sacha and Essie should have been together – and now they finally are.”
As her life comes to an end, Essie realises it’s important to have those she loves around her.
The actress added to What’s On TV: “This is a story of friendship, fighting for survival and explores the headspace that having cancer puts you in.
“Essie’s had her life put on a plate in front of her and she’s realised it’s about holding onto what’s important.”
Essie’s wedding to Sacha will come before the BBC medical drama goes off air as it runs out of episodes due to the coronavirus lockdown.
Episodes will run out on Tuesday 11 August and it’s not known when it will return.
Unfortunately for viewers, Holby City will end on a cliffhanger meaning fans face a long wait before they find out what’s in store for the doctors.
Could it end with Essie’s life hanging in the balance?
Holby City continues Tuesday on BBC One at 8pm.
