Great British Bake Off's Linda has viewers in tears after she dedicates her Showstopper cake to her late daughter

GREAT British Bake Off contestant Linda had tears in her eyes as she dedicated last night's Showstopper to her late daughter Melissa.

The 61-year-old emotionally shared that her daughter had sadly passed away aged 18 and branded her a "sweet little English rose".

Explaining the emotional meaning behind her bake, the baking contestant said her three-tier white chocolate celebration cake with amaretto, raspberry jam and mascarpone cream was a tribute to Melissa's life.

Linda told viewers: "This really means a lot to me this cake, it's a tribute to my daughter actually.

"Melissa had special needs, she's no longer with us, she passed away when she was 18. This is just a celebration of her life really."

She emotionally added: "She was just a sweet little English rose."


Linda's meaningful cake left Bake-off fans in tears as they flooded social media with support for the contestant after her heartbreaking admission.

One viewer penned: "I just started to well up hearing Linda talk about her daughter. What a lovely tribute Rose #GBBO".

"There must be a lot of icing sugar in the air in my house….clearly something in my eye as I to listen to Linda talking about her daughter Crying face on #GBBO," another shared. "Paul has better be kind Crossed fingers".

A third wrote: "Linda <3 when she talked about her daughter I teared up. I’ve never loved a bake off contestant more Two hearts #GBBO".

"That's so sad about Linda's daughter what a lovely idea to make a celebration cake in her memory if it goes well she could be star baker this week #GBBO" a fourth wrote.

Another said: "And how positive is Linda, when clearly there’s been lots of sadness in her life? #GBBO".

This week's episode saw the nine remaining bakers tackling chocolate and kicked off with them creating 12 brownies.

The contestants than tried to successfully to create a Chocolate Babka in the technical challenge before their Showstopper round, which saw them bake a white chocolate celebration cake.

Although Linda wowed Paul and Prue earlier in the episode in the technical challenge, it was in fact Mark L who ended up winning Star Baker this week with his consistent bakes.

However, viewers were left devastated after Sura was eliminated when her 'raw' Showstopper failed to impress judges.
