Christine Lampard has been filling in for Lorraine and hosting an array of guests and topics. On Friday she was joined with comedian and Never Mind the Buzzcocks star, Simon Amstell who put her presenting skills to the test with his witty personality. Simon took aim at Loose Women and even grilled Christine on whether she was vying to take over from Lorraine full time.

Talking to Christine about not being able to work during the COVID-19 pandemic, Simon explained: “It’s been a terrible business. I’ve had to just be sat at home watching awful daytime TV for most of it.”

Taken back by his remark, Christine interjected: “Excuse me! Clearly not this show”

Realising his mistake, Simon quickly quipped: “Not this no, but like Loose Women that kind of thing.”

“No, don’t go there!” Christine interjected, stopping Simon from saying anything else.

“Oh… No, I love Loose Women,” he quipped with a sarcastic tone.

“I mean, it’s very modern now, remember when it was just white women but now, they’ve really figured it out finally” he joked.

“We’ve got it, we’ve nailed it,” Christine giggled, as Simon continued: “Those were different times wasn’t it, it was a different time in 2016.”

Throughout the interview, Christine struggled to keep Simon on topic as he refused to comment on his upcoming tour.

He told her: “You’ve got such nice teeth…They can’t have just grown out of you naturally, can they?”

While Christine was flattered, Simon continued by grilling her about replacing Lorraine.

“Are you gonna take over from this woman or what?” Simon questioned.

“I love Lorraine and hope she has a great holiday and hope nothing happens to her.”

When it looked like Christine had finally got Simon back on track, he turned his attention to her married life with former footballer Frank Lampard.

“How’s your relationships going? Is Frank still leaving his plates in the sink?” he probed.

Christine laughed off Simon’s jokes and assured him Frank was at home looking after the children, before joking: “Why aren’t we married?”

Fans of the show were obsessed with how chaotic the interview was, with one writing on Twitter: “Loving @SimonAmstell on #Lorraine what a way to start a Friday morning! Hilarious.”

“Amstell’s comment about Loose Women – brilliant! #lorraine,” a third posted.

However, some people didn’t find the interview funny with one complaining: “Tough interview cringeeee #lorraine.”

Another added: “I had to turn off the @SimonAmstell interview because I was cringing too hard!”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
