Emmerdale stalwarts Marlon Dingle (played by Mark Charnock) and Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) brought villagers to tears when they got married at the village church last month. The couple has gone under the radar in recent weeks, with ITV soap fans assuming they are enjoying their life together as newlyweds. However, Mark Charnock has hinted divorce might be on the cards for the beloved pair.
The Emmerdale chef has been through a turbulent time after suffering from a stroke in March.
Rhona has stood by Marlon’s side during his recovery process and he proposed to her in recent months.
Marlon nearly missed his own wedding as he was hospitalised overnight, but he made it to the church on time thanks to the help of his best friend Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt).
Their wedding special left Emmerdale viewers sobbing as Marlon summoned the strength to get out of his wheelchair and walk down the aisle to Rhona.
He even made it to his wedding reception, but he and Rhona left the celebrations early as he was exhausted and needed rest.
Other characters’ storylines have taken centre stage recently, but Marlon actor Mark has teased his relationship with Rhona might hit the rocks.
He told Express.co.uk and other media their marriage could end as soon as “next week”.
Could this mean the couple will get divorced if they cannot overcome hurdles?
However, Mark did say his wedding to Rhona was the best out of the five his character has had.
“The difference with this one is that they have this long chart of history, they have already been through so many hard times, they sort of have this rich soil this family can grow out of,” Mark explained.
“They have been through things which can end friendships, let alone relationships. The fact they are still there bodes really well.”
When questioned about Marlon and Rhona’s future, Zoe, who plays Emmerdale vet Rhona, said: “I love this question, because you can say they are fine but in two years’ time one of us will be dead or a lesbian with someone else.
“In my head, I think they are soulmates, but who knows?”
Zoe said their child Leo Goskirk (Harvey Rogerson) has tied them together for the past decade.
She said “audiences like history” as it gives their relationship a weight viewers enjoy on the screen.
The couple recently celebrated Marlon’s daughter April’s (Amelia Flanagan) 13th birthday.
She thought it would be hilarious to prank Rhona and Marlon by pretending to have turned into a moody teenager overnight.
April eventually told them she was just messing around and is still the supportive daughter viewers have come to know and love.
She has been there for Marlon as he recovers from his stroke and made him realise he still had a role to play as her dad even when he felt useless.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
