The Sharma family have been firm favourites on ITV 's Emmerdale since brothers Jai and Nikhil Sharma arrived in the small Yorkshire Dales town in 2009.
After sister Priya, played by Fiona Wade, arrived viewers gradually began to meet more of the Sharma family, and now they remain an integral part of the show.
As the second-longest running television soap, the families and the characters surrounding them are the heart of the show.
Although fans may think they already know all about the Sharma family through their many tumultuous plot-lines, the actors and actresses who play the roles prove to be just as interesting in their life off-screen.
Daily Star has taken a look inside the lives of the stars who play the Sharma family.
Jai Sharma – Chris Bisson
Chris Bisson plays loveable village ladies man, Jai Sharma in the ITV soap opera.
Although he's encountered his fair share of problems on the show, his off-screen life is calmer.
The 46-year-old actor is engaged and the father of two children.
However, Chris has said his kids aren't allowed to watch his more controversial scenes on the soap.
The Shameless actor met his fiancé whilst on holiday in Marbella and the pair have been in love ever since.
Chris, who has also starred in Coronation Street and Doctors, revealed he'd had a hair transplant in June 2020 in a bid to save his career.
Speaking out about his decision, Chris said: "As soon as you start losing your hair you’re immediately cast older.
"It reduces the amount of parts you can play."
"In real life you don’t notice your hair loss day to day, but in TV it’s different because you sit in front of a mirror and have a specific look that you need to achieve."
Priya Sharma – Fiona Wade
Fiona Wade, 42, first arrived in the Dales as Priya Sharma in 2011.
The role was orginally played by actress Effie Woods from her introduction in September 2009 until March 2010.
Not only was appearing in the show a great career move for Fiona, it also shaped her personal life.
In 2019, Fiona married fellow actor and former Emmerdale co-star, Simon Cotton.
Simon appeared in Emmerdale as Home Farm client Hugh Bryant.
The couple seems very happy together and definitely enjoy embracing the romance in their relationship.
Fiona previously told ITV's Lorraine about Simon's proposal.
The soap star explained: "He took me to this beautiful hotel in London, then he took me to my home where my dad passed away.
"It was candles and flowers and then the next day we went to Paris."
However, it's not all been smooth-sailing for the Grange Hill actress, she recently opened up about her struggle with anxiety.
Georgia Sharma – Trudie Goodwin
Trudie Goodwin, 63, played the mother of Nikhil, Jai and Priya from 2011 until 2015.
Although she's well known by Emmerdale fans, Trudie had a very successful career before appearing on the soap.
She played Sergeant June Ackland in the high-profile British television police drama The Bill for 24 years.
However, Trudie's off-screen life was of even more interest when fans discovered who her famous daughter was.
Trudie is mother to English synthpop performer, La Roux, also known as Elly Jackson.
The Bulletproof singer has had hits all over the world and Trudie has since admitted it was difficult to adjust to her daughter being more famous than her.
Nikhil Sharma – Rik Makarem
Rik Makarem, 39, brought youth and charm to the village when he arrived alongside his brother Jai, back in 2011.
However, Rik decided to pursue a different route in his career and quit the show in 2013.
The actor went on to play Dr Sebastian Grayling in Casualty and starred alongside John Barrowman in BBC's global smash hit Torchwood: Children of Earth.
