EastEnders abuser Gray murdering Chantelle nominated for BAFTA Must See Moment

The nominations for this year’s Virgin Media Must-See Moment BAFTA have been revealed – and EastEnders is on the list.

The only award voted for by the public is given to the most dramatic scenes, cliff-hangers, unforgettable and shocking TV moments that sparked huge conversations.

For EastEnders, the Must-See Moment that’s made the nomination list is abuser Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) murdering his wife Chantelle (Jessica Plummer).

Gray had physically and psychologically abused Chantelle for years.

Back in September, Chantelle had set in motion an escape plan – but Gray managed to sabotage her attempts at leaving him.

In the episode that aired September 18, Chantelle found the courage to stand up to her husband. Gray refused to let Chantelle leave and pushed her, causing her to land on the dishwasher and wounded by a sharp knife.

Chantelle pleaded with Gray to get help, but he left the home, created an alibi, and when Gray returned home, he made Chantelle’s death look like a tragic accident.

As well as EastEnders, Channel 4’s Gogglebox and Diversity’s powerful performance shown on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent interpreting the events of 2020, and in particular the Black Lives Matter protests, are also on the nominations list.

The winner of this award will be announced by Richard Ayoade, who will present the award ceremony for the second year running.

Voting closes May 24 at 5pm.
