Escape to the Chateau stars Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree fell in love with Chateau de la Motte Husson in France and decided to buy it within an hour of viewing it a few years ago. Since then the couple have conducted a number of renovations on the property to make it their dream home and have documented each step of their journey on the Channel 4 show. However, in a recent interview Dick confessed there’s one job in particular he’s been trying to ignore.
Dick and Angel joined Graham Norton on Virgin Radio UK to discuss their new book and reflect on their time at their 19th-century chateau.
Their new book, A Year at the Chateau, explores the restorations and renovations the pair have undertaken.
It also includes details of some property work that hasn’t been shown on Escape to the Chateau.
Dick and Angel first moved to the chateau in 2015, but despite having conducted a lot of work on the property, six years later there’s still plenty of jobs that need to be completed.
Speaking about the amount of work the couple have done, Graham said: “So tell us this, you started work on it in 2015, it’s now 2021.
“That’s the thing with a building like this, I guess it’s never finished? But how much, is there a big job left to do?
“Do you wake up in the morning and go, ‘Ugh got to drain the moat or do something’?” Graham asked the couple.
Dick replied: “We have to do that actually, you’ve hit something I’m trying to ignore for the minute.”
“We’ve got some massive jobs to do and we’ve got some things we’re tackling,” the engineer turned TV personality continued.
Dick explained that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic had slowed down their work in the past year.
“This year’s a different year again, there’s no weddings – we’re still in lockdown here in France.
“We haven’t had the easing we’re seeing back home [in the UK], so, consequently it’s very different,” he revealed.
Their Chateau usually hosts several weddings throughout the year, but the pandemic has had a huge impact on the wedding industry with many celebrations being postponed.
Angel also spoke about how there always seems to be more work that needs doing.
She admitted: “We’ve got some big jobs we haven’t tackled if we’re honest with you.
“We’ve still got the roof to do – which is a massive one – and we still haven’t done the windows properly, they’ve been plastered over and we haven’t done them.
“We also have things like, we’d like to have a swimming pool!” Angel exclaimed.
Dick and Angel recently shared an update with fans on when they are likely to be back on TV.
In a post on Facebook, The Escape to the Chateau stars shared a picture of themselves with their two children, Arthur and Dotty, enjoying lunch on a jetty.
The caption read: “Lots of you have been asking if we’ll be seeing our favourite family back on our screens.
“Well, we’re excited to tell you that Dick, Angel, Arthur and Dorothy are currently filming a brand new series of ‘Make Do and Mend’.
“Keep your eyes peeled for announcements of when and where you can watch.”
Escape to the Chateau is available to stream on All4.
