Designated Survivor season 3 ending explained: What happened at the end?

The third series of Designated Survivor was released on Netflix back in the summer of 2019 and fans are curious to know whether it means there will be another series of the show. The season three ending sees main character Tom Kirkman (played by Kiefer Sutherland) get re-elected and a number of cast members get new jobs. Here is everything you need to know about the ending of Designated Survivor which also sees Kirkman grappling with his moral decisions.

What happened at the end of Designated Survivor?

The plot synopsis for Designated Survivor season three, episode 10 reads: “On election day, Kirkman turns to his therapist to assuage his conscience about the events – and his own decisions – of the momentous prior 36 hours.”

At the end of election day, Tom Kirkman finds himself re-elected as president after a fairly dirty campaign.

In the episode of the American thriller series, titled #truthorconsequences, Kirkman speaks to his therapist about his turmoil over some of the decisions he’s made.

Sadly in July last year the series was cancelled by Netflix, meaning there will be no more from the main cast members.

Particularly, the main character is conflicted over his decision to not unearth the truth about his opponent Cornelius Moss (Geoff Pierson).

Kirkman earlier in the season found out that, despite rumours, Moss had nothing to do with the bioweapons conspiracy that would wipe out a percentage of voters.

However, Kirkman decided not to speak out, which definitely helped him to win the election.

With a number of people aware that Kirkman did nothing with the information he had, this decision could have fatal consequences for him.

Another synopsis for the final episode said: “Kirkman talks to his psychologist about the prior 36 hours, where his conflicted decision is brought up, as to whether or not to leak the audio clip that reveals Moss’ possible noninvolvement in the terrorism plot.

“He also brings up his hardening choices and opinions of his own mindset over the course of those hours. In the present tense, Kirkman’s opinion polls are rising, Isabel tells Aaron the real reason they cannot be together again—and soon administers herself a home pregnancy test, and Mars tries to convince recovering Lynn she would be perfect to run for her father’s old Senate seat.

“On Election Day Kirkman is elected to a full term, and along with his supporters and his staff, he hosts a victory party.

“Both Myles Lee and Lorraine are arrested by the FBI for their double-crossing involvement in both the Kirkman and Moss campaigns.”

Isabel gets asked to be the White House Deputy Chief of Staff right at the end of the episode.

She also discovers that she is pregnant, a revelation that spells even more trouble ahead for her and Aaron.

Emily also has a good ending to the season after she gets the FBI to take in Lorraine Zimmer (Julie White) for her role in spreading fake news about Moss.

However, earlier in the series she also compromised her beliefs by leaking information about Moss and the Alzheimers gene he was carrying.
