Coronation Street's Helen Worth reckons 60th anniversary special will be virtual

Coronation Street legend Helen Worth reckons the soap’s upcoming 60th anniversary special will be virtual.

The actress, who plays Gail Platt on the cobbles, joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on today’s This Morning where she was grilled on what’s in store for the landmark event.

‘The 60th anniversary, everyone’s looking forward to that and hoping all the big characters come back,’ Holly probed.

‘I know there are Coronation Street veterans, you’ve got Bill Roach, Barbara Knox, Sue Nicolls, all coming back to be part of that.’

‘That’s happening soon actually,’ Helen replied, before adding that the cast ‘don’t know’ what soap bosses are planning for the celebration.

‘It’s got to be virtually really, hasn’t it? We can’t all get together.

‘They’ll be coming up with something and I hope it will be a big celebration for Coronation Street. 60 years, that’s a long time!’

It’s already been revealed that Helen’s on-screen son David Platt (played by Jack P Shepherd) will have a huge storyline in the upcoming celebrations.

‘It’s always great for me to be involved with the big stories, and especially the anniversary stories,’ he told

‘The live episodes that we’ve done. ‘I think David is 30 this Christmas, so that’s another anniversary for him!

‘To be a part of the 60th is great. Whatever they’ve got in store, I don’t know what they’ve got in store actually, I think it’s a combination of storylines from what I’ve been told.’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
