Coronation Street fans rejoice as Geoff’s reign of terror over Yasmeen ends

Coronation Street fans were left delighted to see the end of Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) after he fell off a roof chasing Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King).

The pair have been embroiled in a long-running domestic abuse storyline, which culminated in his death in Wednesday’s episode.

Geoff had turned up unannounced to try and convince Yasmeen to sign over her part of the house to him, after she had been found not guilty of attacking him earlier in the week.

He left her a set of keys to remove her belongings from the house, but once again surprised her by turning up at the property while she was still there, attempting to get her things during a powercut.

Yasmeen asked Geoff if he had been drinking when he arrived, as he berated her for finally reporting him for coercive control and accused her of ruining his relationship with Christine (Kate Wood), who he had been planning to jet off to Cyprus with.

Enraged after having had an argument with Christine over the phone, Geoff flashed a lighter at Yasmeen before setting fire to the house by dropping the lit flame onto some papers at his feet.

Yasmeen ran upstairs to escape as Geoff hit the fire alarm to stop it ringing before following her onto the roof through a skylight.

As Yasmeen attempts to escape by shimmying along the tiles, telling herself not to look down at the drop below, Geoff is attacked by Alya, who has also climbed out.

The three of them cling on to the roof as Yasmeen finally stands up to Geoff and tells him she is not scared of him any longer, when he loses grip and slips down the tiles.

Yasmeen attempts to help him by throwing her scarf towards him despite Alya’s protests, but it’s to no avail as he ends up falling to his death below.

Viewers were over the moon at Geoff’s death, and the fact that Yasmeen would finally be free from his ongoing abuse.

They tweeted: ‘Bye bye Teflon Geoff, it’s been emotional #Corrie#corrie60 That was brilliant! Loved Yasmeen’s take down that sent him down and the chickens being there!! They remember what you did to Charlotte Bronte…’

Others added: ‘That’s the end Geoff deserves… hoping the chickens peck his eyes out’ and ‘Gwarnnnnnnnn Geoff finally got what he deserved.’

Viewers loved the tense scenes, writing: ‘YESSSS GEOFF IS FINALLY GONE!!! FINALLY!!! I would have loved to see the chickens peck his eyes out! Fantastic episode tonight’ and ‘Yesss bl**dy yessss Geoff is a gonna I hope anyway! Happy 60 years what a way to celebrate!’
