Comic-Con 2019: All Activations From 'The Good Place' to 'Batman' to 'The Expanse'

Downtown San Diego will have plenty for fans who can’t get into the convention hall — or just need a breather

NBC’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Experience
Thursday, July 18-Sunday, July 21 at Gaslamp Square (between the Convention Center and Hard Rock Hotel in front of the Tin Fish Restaurant).

As the official description puts it, “Det. Jake Peralta and the rest of the Nine-Nine are headed to San Diego Comic-Con this summer, swapping coasts in search of new recruits! Comic-Con attendees can immerse themselves in the newly designed “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” experience, testing their skills for a chance to join the infamous 99th precinct. ” Attendees will perform several tasks to prove they have what it takes to join the squad from a recreation of the show’s iconic set. Exclusive content, giveaways, and photo opportunities abound.

NBC’s “Superstore” Cloud 9 Pop-Up
Thursday, July 18-Sunday, July 21 inside the Hard Rock Hotel main lobby

The pop up for NBC’s “Superstore” offers exclusive content, a custom photo opportunity and a “customer service” desk to host exclusive “Superstore” giveaways, while supplies last. Follow @NBCSuperstore for more information and events during Comic-Con.

NBC’s “The Good Place” Diner – The Interdimensional Hole of Pancakes
Thursday, July 18-Sunday, July 2 at Maryjane’s Diner at the Hard Rock Hotel

See the Hard Rock’s Maryjane’s Diner transformed into the Interdimensional Hole of Pancakes, the diner that exists between realms as seen in Season 3 of “The Good Place.” Chow down on a themed meal, use the Time-Knife and see what it feels like for Michael to be truly powerless. FX Fearless Forum
Thursday July 18-Sunday July 21 at Hilton Bayfront Park immediately southeast of the San Diego Convention Center

Anchored by the “American Horror Story: 1984” – Face the Darkness activation, FX Fearless Forum takes over the network’s traditional space adjacent to the Convention Center and will also feature the “What We Do in the Shadows Lair,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” Sunscreen Zone, and the “Archer” O2 Station. FX Fearless Forum will also light up the night with a spectacular, awe-inspiring projection mapped gallery display highlighting FX Network’s programming with stunning visuals. Produced by FX Design in collaboration with BARTKRESA studio.

Fans will be able to pre-register for a RFID badge, required to gain entry, on FXSDCC.com both in advance and on-site. Registration & badge collection is required to check into and participate in activations for premium swag, time-slot reservations and other surprises.

It goes down from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. Thursday July 18 through Saturday July 20, and from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday July 21.

HBO’s “Watchmen”
WATCHMEN fans should keep a look out around the Gaslamp Quarter for a surprise in-world opportunity to engage with the new HBO series.

The Amazon Prime Video Experience
Thursday, July 18-Sunday July 21 at the corner of MLK and 1st.

Amazon is treating fans to a huge immersive experience inspired by its upcoming originals “The Boys,” “Carnival Row” and the upcoming fourth season of The Expanse. The 60,000 square-foot activation located across from the San Diego Convention Center will feature a 40-foot tower covered in LED screens playing scenes from all three shows. Comic-Con attendees will also be treated to live, show-specific performances taking place atop the multi-level tower.

Attractions include the chance to cover up the crime scene of a superhero kidnapping at the Audio Visual shop where Hughie works on “The Boys,” taking the Rocinante from “The Expanse” on a United Nations peacekeeping mission to a newly colonized planet, and exploring the “Carnival Row” universe in which humans and exotic creatures coexist before entering The Forbidden Lounge, a neo-Victorian decorated hideaway venue, for a special performance. Amazon Prime Video collaborated with LG within the series activations to provide a premiere viewing experience for attendees.

Inside, attendees receive collectible gold and silver coins they can use to further explore the activation. Guests also receive beverages and a selection of mouthwatering bites, including Carl’s Jr., which will provide burgers on-site for press and fans as part of “The Boys” campaign. There’s also a Cosplay Photography Corner, where a lifestyle photographer will be onsite to take professional portraits as digital takeaways.

The Batman Experience Powered by AT&T
Thursday, July 18-Sunday, July 21 at the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park

In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Batman, DC and AT&T have teamed up for a massive, interactive exhibition that includes the largest-ever collection of Batman-related props, costumes and vehicles, using all three levels of the Comic-Con museum’s 68,000 square feet space. The immersive pop-up museum and gaming-centric installation will be free and open to the public, with no SDCC badge required.

Featured elements include:

The Dark Knight Dive — a VR skydiving experience into the Gotham City. By combining a skydive booth with the magic of VR goggles and a helmet in the shape of a Batman cowl, gamers and Batman fans will virtually fly through Gotham City in pursuit of the Scarecrow, who
unleashes his Fear gas and creates a harrowing journey for fans through Batman’s 80 years of friends and foes.

The Batcave gaming lounge — featuring all generations of Batman video and arcade games straight from the DC archives, including Warner Bros. titles like “Batman The Brave And The Bold” (Wii or 3DS), “LEGO Batman 3” (PS4), “Batman: Arkham Knight” (PS4) and
“Injustice 2” (PS4).

Hundreds of rare pieces of DC comic book art and large-scale film and television props, including several from Tim Burton’s “Batman,” which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Alongside classic props, there will also be a new car created by “Wayne Technology.”

WHAAM! KABOOM! POW! The Rogue Gallery Rumble — an interactive punching bag experience using projection mapping and lights to trigger  iconic animations and sounds throughout the space.

A special 6-foot Batman Black & White Statue designed by acclaimed artist and writer Todd McFarlane that will be unveiled wednesday, July 17. The one-of-a-kind life-size version of the statue will be displayed throughout SDCC along with the other 99 Batman Black & White figures from DC Collectibles.

A sneak peak of the exhibition will be available to attendees of The Gathering, a special ceremony inducting Batman into the Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame on Wednesday, July 17 at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at www.ccmgathering.org.
