Quiet. Beyoncé is singing. We finally got our first taste of Queen Bey’s vocals in the 2019 remake of The Lion King thanks to a newly released trailer that features her singing “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” with co-star Donald Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino). In the 30-second clip, the duo starring as Nala and Simba deliver a stripped-down, soulful, and downright angelic rendition of the classic Elton John ballad. Full disclosure: You may need a tissue when you listen.
Apparently, Beyoncé and Glover won’t be the only two vocalists on the track; Timon (Billy Eichner) and Pumbaa (Seth Rogen) are expected to join as well. Fans may recall that the famous meerkat and warthog start off the song with a hilarious intro in the original animated film.
Eichner revealed back in January: “I play Timon, and Timon and Pumbaa start singing ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight,’ and then it segues into Beyoncé and Donald Glover singing it.”
The version of the song that appeared in the 1994 film included Joseph Williams (Simba’s singing voice), Sally Dworsky (Nala’s singing voice), Nathan Lane (Timon), Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa), and singer Kristle Edwards. Relive the magical scene below.
As the film’s July 18 release date quickly approaches, Disney has been sharing more and more teasers of the highly anticipated remake. Earlier this month, the company shared a clip called “Come Home,” showing Beyoncé speak as Nala for the first time. As expected, fans went wild.
