Alison, 46, and Dermot, 48, have become regular faces on the Friday instalment of the show since they took on the role from Ruth Langsford, 61, and Eamonn Holmes, 61, in January. Seven months into their new venture, the duo have increased in popularity and have touched on some hard-hitting issues as well as having some fun. However, the pair announced at the beginning of the latest edition of This Morning they will be taking a break for the summer.

“It’s our last show,” Dermot remarked after the opening titles rolled, with Alison assuring fans they would be back in September.

For the next seven weeks, Ruth and Eamonn will be taking back their hosting duties as they are contracted to present during the academic holiday seasons.

Taking to Twitter, viewers shared their thoughts on the news, with one writing: “How amazing is @AlisonHammond makes my day every Friday #ThisMorning.”

Another posted: “This should mean that next week is Holly [Willoughby] and Phillip [Schofield’s] last, as they’ll do the Friday show. Then we get Eamonn and Ruth back! #ThisMorning.”

Whilst a third commented on the social media platform: “Well, I’ll miss Alison and Dermot on a Friday. Sod you lot #ThisMorning.”
