The Real Meaning Behind Beat Box By SpotemGottem Featuring Pooh Shiesty Or DaBaby

The advantage that aspiring artists have compared to their predecessors is the power of social media. There is no debate that social media has quite the effect on a celebrity’s career. In addition to the chance of becoming an overnight celebrity, the clout from social media challenges and discourses makes for free promo. This proves to be true for several artists, including Mooski, CJ, and Megan Thee Stallion. Joining the list of those enjoying the perks of virality is Florida rapper SpottemGottem.

The Jacksonville native’s track, “Beat Box 2” featuring Pooh Shiesty or DaBaby, is one of the songs of the moment. Paired with the popular Junebug dance — created by TikTok personality June Elite and labeled the “#BeatBoxChallenge” or “#JuneBugChallenge” — , “Beat Box 2” is the one song you can’t seem to get away from. Celebrities such as Saweetie, LeBron James, and Kevin Hart have joined in on the challenge. Here’s the real meaning behind the track.

SpotemGottem's 'Beat Box' is about the sound of his guns

SpotemGottem’s infectious track, “Beat Box 2” isn’t just your average overnight sensation. Aside from free social media promo, Spotem’s song is also getting recognition from fellow artists. On the catchy track, Spotem raps over a simple, bass-filled beat that is easy to attract freestyles from other rappers. Artists such as Mulatto, NLE Choppa, and Polo G have created remixes to the track.

As of this writing, “Beat Box 2” peaked at #58 on the Billboard Hot 100 within its first three weeks on the chart. With multiple iterations of the song in rotation, you may be wondering why there’s so many to begin with. However, per Stereogum, the purpose is to pick your fighter during a gunfight. In the song’s hook, Spotem raps about shooting one of his opps: “Hit him in the spine, knock his dreads off/ My woadie just caught a body, I nicknamed him Randy Moss.”

The rapper goes on to compare the sound of his gunshots to someone beat boxing, hence the name of the track. He continues, “Thuggin’ in my Reeboks, ridin’ with a G-SHOCK/ Shh, I heard he shot, Draco make ’em beat box/ OG made that sharp turn, woadie spot ’em, peeled the car/ Had a mask on, Draco make ’em beat box.” Clearly, SpotemGottem’s gun is not one to be played with.
