Stars who tragically lost partners – Kelis, Sir Paul McCartney and Liam Neeson

Singer Kelis' fans and friends have been sending condolences after the tragic death of her husband, Mike Mora, who passed away today (March 15) at the age of 37 after battling stomach cancer.

The star was diagnosed a year earlier, with doctors at the time giving him just 18 months left to live.

Kelis' representative Steve Satterthwaite of Red Light Management confirmed: "Sadly, it’s true that Mike Mora has passed away. We would ask all to respect Kelis and her family's privacy as of right now. Thank you."

In tribute to Kelis' late husband, the Daily Star takes a look at some other stars of the entertainment industry who have sadly lost loved ones.

Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger

Michelle Williams was left heartbroken when her former flame Heath Ledger died in 2008 at the age of 28.

The Joker star was found dead at his home in Manhattan and it was later confirmed that he'd died of an accidental overdose.

Michelle and Heath – who fell in love on the set of hit 2005 film Brokeback Mountain – had split at the time of his death, but shared daughter Matilda, who was two.

The actress said in a statement after Heath's death that their little girl would be "brought up with the best memories of him".

"My heart is broken," said the star, who was 28 at the time.

"I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day. His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time and we know that he is with us still."

Michelle is now married to theatre director Thomas Kail, and the pair share one child.

Celine Dion and Rene Angelil

Singer Celine's husband and longtime manager Rene died in 2016 aged 73 after battling throat cancer.

The pair had been married since 1994 and shared three sons – Rene-Charles, and twins Nelson and Eddy.

Celine, who was 48 when Rene died, said in 2019 that she was always thinking of him.

"Before I talk, he goes through my mind," she said on the Today Show.

"Would he do that? Is it too edgy? Would he be approving that? I believed in him so much and I still do."

Lea Michele and Cory Monteith

The cast of Glee were left devastated after Cory died from an accidental overdose in 2013, aged 31.

The actor – who found fame as heartthrob Finn Hudson on the hit series – was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver.

Lea, who played Finn's love interest Rachel on the show, had been dating the actor for over a year in real life.

Paying tribute, the then 26-year-old tweeted a poignant picture of them together and wrote: "Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support. Cory will forever be in my heart."

Lea tied the knot with businessman Zandy Reich in 2019 and in 2020 they welcomed son Ever Leo.

Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain

Nirvana frontman Kurt took his own life at the age of 27 in 1994, leaving widow Courtney and their 18-month-old daughter Frances Bean.

The Hole singer – who was 30 when her husband died – has paid tribute to the grunge star over the years, and in 2020 shared how lucky she felt to have had him in her life.

Posting a snap on Instagram of them together she wrote: "28 years ago , we got married, in Honolulu, on Waikiki beach.

"28 years ago, I recall feeling, deeply, delighted, dizzy, so in love, and knowing how lucky I was."

"This man was an angel," she said, thanking the late musician for "looking out" for her.

Nigella Lawson and John Diamond

Domestic Goddess Nigella married journalist John in 1992 and they had two children together – daughter Cosima and son Bruno.

John was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1997 and passed away aged 47 in 2001, when the chef was 41.

It was reported that one of John's last messages to his wife was read out at his funeral: "How proud I am of you and what you have become."

Nigella later went on to marry art collector Charles Saatchi but they went their separate ways in 2013.

Sir Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney

Beatles legend Sir Paul was married to Linda from 1969 until her death from breast cancer in 1998.

The pair were a match made in heaven, apparently spending just a night apart in all their years together.

The BBC quoted Sir Paul as saying that he "cried for about a year on and off" after she passed away.

The chart-topper, who is now 79, married Heather Mills in 2002, but they split six years later.

He married Nancy Shevell in 2011.

Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson

Taken star Liam lost his wife Natasha in 2009.

The actress, who was 45, died from head injuries sustained in a skiing accident in Canada.

The pair had been married since 1994 and had two sons together.

Earlier this year, the Irish star hinted that he had fallen for someone while working on his latest film, Blacklight.

Speaking on Australian morning show Sunrise, he said: "I made a couple of pals and fell in love once while I was there, but she was taken."
