One Direction are still on hiatus, but the coronavirus lockdown may be softening the pair’s decisions of late. The band broke up some time ago, and have each released solo efforts. But has the shadow of COVID-19 brought a ray of sunshine for One Direction fans?
Reports have suggested One Direction may be on the road to a reunion, including the bandmate who first left the group, Zayn Malik.
Page Six reported insiders were suggesting the band may be coming back together for their 10th anniversary in July, coronavirus permitting.
All four of the boys – Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan – started refollowing Malik on Twitter earlier this week.
An insider has now said: “There’s still a long way to go and a lot of hurdles. But there’s a lot of goodwill between them now and they want to make something happen.”
Another source said: “Each of the boys wants to somehow thank the fans for their ten years of loyalty.
“Despite each of their solo successes, each of them knows that the greatest thanks they can give to their fans is for them to do something together in tribute to where things began.”
The band’s albums have also had a new image on streaming services, which includes Malik.
Fans were left in a similar frenzy in February, when, after years of quiet, a possible reunion was brought up in the subtlest of ways.
Fans received a notification when the One Direction website was updated, which left fans certain a 1D reunion was on the cards.

The website was updated in a small way – to reflect the 2020 Sony Music Entertainment – which meant fans were certain this was the year of their reunion.
It is the band’s 10th anniversary, so this may not be too farfetched an idea.
Taking to Twitter, one fan said: “me in 2020 finally thinking I’m over 1D
“suddenly: One Direction documentary, website active, 2020 on the bottom of their page, radio stations tweeting about 1D”
Another simply asked: “umm… WHY IS THE ONE DIRECTION WEBSITE BACK UP??”
Clearly fans were in a frenzy about the idea of their favourite boyband coming back together, especially after Liam Payne let slip about a One Direction documentary.
Speaking to Dubai’s City Times while promoting his debut album, he said: “It’s hard for me to remember specific gigs because it was a blur of planes and sound checks and screams.”
He then added: “I think we filmed that show and it will be part of a documentary around an anniversary.”

While the anniversary is uncertain, with this year being 10 years since the band formed, it seems very likely this is the year when the band’s fans will get what they have been hoping for: more One Direction.
What songs did One Direction sing?
One Direction’s debut single, after being named the third place runners-up on The X Factor in 2010, was What Makes You Beautiful, which was followed by Gotta Be You and One Thing, all of which were released on their debut album, Up All Night,
The band released their second album, Take Me Home, in 2012, with it including singles such as Live While We’re Young and Little Things, before they released their third album Midnight Memories in 2013, with the lead song named as Best Song Ever.
In 2014, the band released its fourth album, Four, which included songs such as Night Changes and Steal My Girl.
After this release, in 2015, Malik left the band, and the group released their final album, Made in the A.M. in 2015, featuring tracks such as Drag Me Down and Perfect.
The band had four UK Number One albums and four UK Number One singles, including one of their final singles, Drag Me Down.
At present, more information on the One Direction reunion or documentary are unknown.
