Mariah Carey hits number 1 for first time with All I Want For Christmas Is You

The early Christmas spirit in 2020 has benefitted Mariah Carey as she has reached number 1 for the first tie with All I Want For Christmas Is You.

The single, first released in 1994, has topped The Official Big Top 40 chart in the UK ahead of Little Mix with Sweet Melody and All You’re Dreaming Of by Liam Gallagher.

It comes as the country looks for a bit of Christmas joy in an otherwise tough year with festive music charting earlier than ever.

All I Want For Christmas Is You, recently named as the most overrated Christmas song of all time in our poll, entered the charts on November 22 however it has never been at number 1 until today.

It’s last highest position on The Official Big Top 40 chart was number six in 2011.

When it came out 26 years ago it entered the UK Singles Chart at number five during the week of December 10, 1994. It peaked at number two the following week, staying there for the final three weeks of December.

How will it do for the rest of December this year?

The Official Big Top 40 goes out on Sundays from 4pm on Capital FM and Heart.

Maybe the singer can enjoy more chart-topping success with her new track with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson, Oh Santa!

The song will be part of her upcoming festive bash Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special on Apple TV+ which will also feature special guests such as Snoop Dogg and Tiffany Haddish as well as her children Moroccan and Monroe.
