Love Island’s Luca Bish glad week is over after Gemma Owen split and thanks fans

Love Islandstar Luca Bish has thanked fans for their "kindness" in the wake of his split from Gemma Owen – saying he was "glad this week is over".

The former couple, who finished second in the recent series of ITV’s hit reality show, decided to part just after three months of dating outside the villa.

Gemma, 19, the daughter of former footballer Michael Owen, said in an Instagram story on Wednesday (November 16): "It wasn’t an easy decision but this ultimately is what is best for us both right now.

"Many of you have been on this journey with us from the very beginning and I want to thank you for your continued support as we start new chapters. Love always. Gem x."

Fishmonger Luca, 23, later added his own statement on Instagram, revealing that they had made the "mutual decision earlier today to go our separate ways".

He said: "Switched my phone back on after taking some time out to clear my head after an emotional afternoon to thousands of messages and news articles about my break-up.

"I would have liked some time to process this privately but as you all now know sadly Gemma and I made the mutual decision earlier today to go our separate ways," adding that: "We will remain good friends and I wish nothing but the best for her."

Luca took to social media again on Sunday night (November 20), sharing a snap of himself in a black hoodie and said: "Glad this week is over. Thank you for all the kind messages."

His last post shows him and Gemma enjoying Bonfire Night, with fans and followers sharing supportive messages, including his former Love Island co-stars Ikenna Ekwonna and Dami Hope.

A source close to the former couple has since suggested their friends knew the relationship was not faring well after the dating show ended, with the pair failing to attend a Indiyah Polack’s fashion launch in September.

They told The Sun: "Most of the cast were there ready to celebrate, but they thought something was up with Gemma and Luca for not coming."

The couple had been on holiday to Dubai, but faced a long-distance relationship with him based in Brighton and her in Cheshire.
