Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley ‘to wed in 2021’ as lockdown made her ‘sure he’s the one’

Lisa Riley is set to tie the knot next year after lockdown made her sure her fiance is the one.

The Emmerdale star is gearing up for a 2021 wedding after spending more time with her partner because of restrictions.

Lisa, 44, has been protective about her fiance and has only disclosed his first name, Al.

The actress, who plays Mandy Dingle, has been with her beau since 2014 and more smitten than ever.

She said: “I always picked the blokes who liked the red carpet and liked being on Lisa Riley’s arm and the reason why, fundamentally, was because they were tossers!

“They weren’t with me for the correct reasons, whereas Al would love me if I made wicker baskets for a living.

“He loves me for who I am and also he’s the calm to my mayhem. He was real and honest and my job didn’t remotely impress him.

“It’s a cliché but when I stopped looking for someone, that’s when it happened to me. And I definitely wasn’t looking for love anymore.”

The couple have been together since 2014 after meeting through friends and got engaged two years ago, reports The Mirror.

And lockdown has made her 100% sure her American Musician beau is the one.

“In the six years we’ve been together, we’ve never spent as much time together as we have this year and we still love each other.

“We’ve been getting on brilliantly, I feel blessed. I wouldn’t rule out us getting married next year at all,” she says. “We were talking about it the other day.

“It will be incredibly simple. I love the idea of keeping it intimate, with just our nearest and dearest there and nothing flamboyant.”

Until then she’s looking forward to being alone with Al over the festive season – but devastated she won’t be able to spend Christmas Day with her 70-year-old dad Terry because of Covid

Earlier this year Lisa, 44, moved back to Yorkshire to be closer to Terry.

“Dad has type 2 diabetes and he’s had a few other health issues over the past month and we want to play it safe,” she says.

“I’ll see him from a distance but I can’t risk going into the house. He’s struggling but his grandchildren are his world and he wants to get better for them, so he’s being really careful. This year distance is going to be the best gift.”

Lisa will also be steering clear of pigging out over Christmas having shed 12 stone five years ago.

She says: “Before I lost the weight every family member bought me a chocolate orange – that was my thing – and I was eating them until February but now I just don’t have them.

“Crisps are my heroin so they’re literally not in my cupboards any more.

“It’s like Pringles, I just won’t touch them because someone like me wouldn’t stop until I’d had five tubes. I can’t remember the last time I had a crisp – probably more than five years ago.

“I’m a nightmare to buy presents for because people can’t buy me any Ferrero Rocher and they can’t get me champagne, because I’ve given up drinking too.”
