Is Chris Hemsworth Interested in Making 'Asgardians of the Galaxy'?

When we last saw the god of thunder, AKA Thor, he was taking off with his new pals, the Guardians of the Galaxy. So one of the many questions posed by Avengers: Endgame is, will the next Thor movie be a Thor/Guardians team-up?

The good news is, the answer to that question is probably yes. The bad news is, it will probably be a while before we see it because Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, is taking a break from shooting movies to spend more time with his family.

So will the next Thor movie be Thor 4: Asgardians, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or something else entirely? We can’t say for certain, but we know Hemsworth is game.

Setting the stage for the next ‘Thor’

SPOILERS for that handful of people who haven’t seen Endgame.

As Avengers: Endgame wound down, Thor still felt a little lost, even in victory over Thanos. He felt he had let his fellow Asgard refugees down in establishing a new home on Earth. So he decided to forge his own path, heading off into space with his new cohorts, Rocket and the gang.

So we know we’re going to get more adventures with Thor and the Guardians. The two entities had established a fresh, funny rapport back in Avengers: Infinity War. As soon as Thor started calling Rocket “rabbit,” audiences knew Thor and the Guardians were meant for each other, no matter how irritated Rocket was.

While it’s obvious we’ll see them together again, it’s not clear what form that will take. Will Thor 4 have the Guardians as his cohorts? Or will Thor actually join the team for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which was know is coming eventually? Or would Asgardians of the Galaxy be its own freaky animal?

We don’t know yet. Marvel may not know for sure yet. But Hemsworth is down for whatever Marvel comes up with. When Cinemablend floated the Asgardians title, Hemsworth said: “I’ll work with any of those guys. Asgardians Of The Galaxy. That’s actually great. You might’ve just got me my next job. Thank you, man.”

Chris Hemsworth puts on a suit with Tessa Thompson

Hemsworth already knows his next job: promoting the movies he’s already shot, and one of those is imminent. Men in Black International, the fourth film in that franchise, comes out June 14. In a very amusing coincidence, his co-star in the movie is none other than Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie from Asgard.

In Endgame, Thor left Valkyrie in charge of the Asgard earth colony while Thor went off to space. Or maybe that’s just a deep cover and Thor is assuming the identity of an alien-hunting agent to make life a little easier for The Guardians. Then he’ll use the memory-erasing flash device and the MCU will proceed as normal. We kid, but fanfiction is fun.

Hemsworth won’t just be spending all his time in outer space. He’ll come back down to earth for a role in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, part of  Kevin Smith’s View Askew universe. After that comes Dhaka, which is about an Indian businessman who recruits a missionary to find his adopted son. The script is by Joe Russo, who directed Hemsworth in Infinity War and Endgame.

Marvel fans shouldn’t fret. Hemsworth will come back to Thor after a break. He said to Cinemablend:

“I’d play that character again. I love it so much – especially if there’s something unique to do again with it. I felt like the last three films were very, very different each time. It really felt like a totally different character. And I don’t even know when or if they’re shooting [Guardians of the Galaxy 3]. After the Avengers press tour I kind of went and buried my head in the sand.”

Chris Hemsworth hates to leave his kids

After promoting the next round of movies he’s already shot, Hemsworth will go back to his family. Hemsworth told The Daily Telegraph he plans to spend more time in Byron Bay, the coastal town in northern Australia where he lives when he’s not acting.  He and his wife, Elsa, have three children.

“This year I probably won’t shoot anything. I just want to be at home now with my kids,” he said. “They are at a very important age. They are still young and they are aware when I leave more than before.”
