‘Avengers: Endgame’ Re-Release: Does the Extended Cut Have an Alternate Ending?

With the Avengers: Endgame re-release out in theaters at the time of this writing, many who’ve sat on the fence are likely wondering if it’s worth seeing a second time. It really depends on how much of an MCU fan you are. Not everyone thinks the “extra” footage is worth paying another movie ticket to see.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a few deleted scenes, plus a notable tribute to Stan Lee at the end, then it’s the perfect time to go if you haven’t seen Avengers: Endgame yet. Those of you still marking a day on your calendar to see it will likely wonder if there’s also an alternate ending. Despite the alternate realities the film opened up, you’ll be surprised at the answer.

The re-release has more post-credits material

Since the original April release of Avengers: Endgame didn’t include an end-credits scene, many fans were hungry for one so it could either set up Spider-Man: Far From Home, or just offer some deeper insights into former’s plot.

Many critics have already expounded on what they want to see during this sequence (and what they don’t want). Most just pine for more clarification on what Steve Rogers did during his time-travel excursion to meet up with Peggy Carter again.

You’ll also find critics saying they want to see a preview of Loki, plus maybe a clue or two on what the next Avengers team might look like. Even with all this, it reportedly hasn’t been enough to lure more people in. It hasn’t broken the box office record set by Avatar, the re-release’s initial aim.

The re-release definitely won’t have any alternate endings, for now

Based on what’s been said, there isn’t an alternate ending in this re-release. We can’t say this still won’t be a possibility later when Avengers: Endgame is released on Blu-Ray in August, along with six confirmed deleted scenes. After such a complex plot, Kevin Feige maybe planned a number of endings for the film to throw media and any leakers off the trail.

What those alternate endings would be is anyone’s guess, though we hope it would include some more clarity on the “alternate realities” idea the film put forward. A number of fans are still working out the math on the time-travel utilized and whether it truly created alternate timelines or the main timeline exists intact with hidden changes.

There’s always a chance one of the deleted scenes added to the end of this new Avengers: Endgame release will pad some of this out. Nevertheless, it’s still doubtful since the creative team knows the crux of the film is more about what happens to the characters and what’s coming next.

Since the re-release hasn’t added the extra box office numbers like expected, MCU fans might wonder if any future re-releases will have to add something more enticing to not look like a money grab.

Would the MCU ever add alternate endings to an original cut?

With interactive storytelling becoming a new fad on streaming services, would we ever see it used by the MCU eventually on the big screen or through streaming formats?

If there were any more perfect medium for this, it would be for a Marvel film. For those who uphold the alternate universe theories, this would allow expansion and allow fans who want a certain outcome to make it happen for them personally.

Whether those alternate endings would cheat death is another thing. Based on our favorite actors in the franchise wanting to move on to other things, no alternate ending will reverse their current demises at the moment.

Alternate endings could still shift the stories so it feels like it won’t be years until the departed superheroes are seen again in one MCU project or another.
