‘Tricky transition’ Harry and Meghan get sympathy from BBC’s Gugu Mbatha Raw

Gugu Mbatha Raw, 38, has spoken out on her views regarding the Royal couple. The English actress has talked about flirting with the idea of playing Meghan Markle in a TV production. 

Gugu has expressed plenty of sympathy for the royals. 

She commented that the two are something of a sensation in the USA. 

The award-winning actress said: “I wish them luck. It’s a tricky transition to make.”

She also told Tatler that she had never come across either of them in Los Angeles.

The actress reacted positively to the idea of playing Meghan in a future season of The Crown. 

The Girl Before star said that she would be flattered by the idea but would have to take some time to think about it. 

She said: “Oh my God, that’s hilarious. I’d be very flattered; I’d have to consider it.” 

The star is often suggested by fans to be someone who could play Meghan in the Netflix show. 

For her services to drama, Gugu was awarded an MBE. 

She joked about the moment she received a letter with the royal stamp hood. 

The TV star explained she quipped with her mum about receiving the letter, then it actually arrived. 

She said how she received a note with “some sort of royal stamp on it”. 

The star added: “And I remember joking to my mum, ‘Oh, it’s probably the damehood’. 

“When I opened it, I was shocked. My mum was thrilled.”

The actress spoke about her shock in discovering that Prince Charles liked Doctor Who. 

She noted the Prince of Wales talked about Doctor Who while awarding her the prestigious MBE. 

“I thought, ‘Oh my God, is Prince Charles a Whovian?’ He said he’d visited the set.”

Speaking more about The Royal Family, she explained the idea of such a family is much more enchanting in America.

The star shared that she understood it wasn’t an “easy life”. 

She added: “It sort of feels like a fairytale from an American viewpoint. 

“I’m sure it’s not an easy life. 

“And I’m sure we don’t know the half of it. But I respect it.”
