‘She was over the moon!’ Tom Hardy delights young fan, 13, as he poses for a sweet photo with her after being spotted in a Teeside toy store on Christmas Eve

Hollywood actor Tom Hardy delighted a fan this week after posing for a sweet photo with her after she saw him out and about.

The actor, 45, was spotted doing a touch of last minute shopping on Christmas Eve at Smyths toys on Portrack Lane in Stockton, Teesside.

Young fan Eliza Cartwright, 13, was out shopping with her dad Michael when they ran into the huge star and asked for a picture.

Michael told Teesside Live afterwards: ‘She was over the moon, it definitely made her Christmas.

Michael added: ‘My wife is a big fan and she wasn’t there unfortunately, so she was a bit devastated.’

‘But I wished him a merry Christmas because it was Christmas Eve, just a few hours before the shops were closing for Christmas Day so it was nice to see him on Christmas Eve.

Michael said he did not want to keep the A-lister for too long as it was ‘his Christmas Eve, too’ but said he was very pleasant and happy to have his photograph taken.

It is not the first time that Tom has kindly interacted with fans.

Earlier this month he granted a superfan her dying wish by Facetiming her as she received end-of-life treatment at a hospice in Warwick.

Jo-Anne Shaw, 58, told staff at the Myton Hospice speaking with the Peaky Blinders star was the one thing she dreamed of, prompting them to put a public call-out on social media.

The post attracted 3,000 shares and hundreds more comments and eventually reached Hardy himself, who responded with: ‘Be my pleasure’.

The mother-of-two said Hardy video called her on Friday afternoon and spoke to her ‘as if he was a friend’.

‘I’m such a big fan of his, I’ve watched all his movies and boxsets especially during lockdown. I love him to bits,’ she told the BBC.

‘I haven’t been very well for a while now, but he put me on a pedestal for a day and that’s all I can ask for.’

Ms Shaw, who has cancer, even received a life-sized cardboard cut-out of the actor in lieu of flowers by a friend.

Hardy told Ms Shaw she was ‘a very popular lady’ during the video call.

The hospice shared an update to social media followers who helped to ensure their appeal reached Hardy and his team.

A spokesperson said: ‘We’ve been blown away by Tom’s kindness and support too. Jo-Anne and her family cannot thank you enough for making this happen.’
