The One Show’s Jermaine Jenas forced to host alone as Alex Scott gets ‘dreaded superbug’

The One Show host Alex Scott had to withdraw from presenting the show on Monday evening, 25 October, due to illness.

Fellow host, Jermaine Jenas confirmed that she had contracted the “dreaded superbug” meaning the former Arsenal footballer was unable to help co-host the show.

Jermaine let the audience know he had to present the show solo as he told surprised viewers: “Hello and welcome to your first One Show of the week. Live on BBC One and iPlayer with me – yes, just me.”

The ex-Tottenham Hotspur ace explained further: “Alex Scott should be with me but unfortunately she’s been hit, like so many, with that dreaded superbug.”

Jermaine sent warm wishes to his fellow TV presenter as he said: “So get well soon, Scotty. We can’t wait to have you back.”

There is no return date confirmed for when Alex will return to the show, but the presenter has an array of presenting gigs so fans of those will be hoping for her speedy return.

The footballer-turned-TV-star most recently became the host of Football Focus on Saturday afternoons.

Even in Alex’s absence the show was still full of some of the most iconic names in entertainment business.

Actor and activist Joanna Lumley, new Doctor Who star John Bishop, and the entertainer Michael Ball all were guests on the famous green sofas.

Viewers of Monday’s episode were treated to a Halloween-themed teaser of comedian Bishop in his new role as the Doctor’s newest companion, Dan Lewis.

One fan tweeted: “Well that's good, we've got a little taste of Dan's humour. I have a feeling he's gonna be the best chibnall companion yet.”

Another fan of the sci-fi show excitedly added: “So cute!! Dan looks lovely and John is clearly having a good time, and I love that the story really, truly does take place on Halloween!!”
