The ITV presenter appeared to disapprove of the Duke’s decision to fly back to his £10.5million Californian home this week instead of spending time with the Queen on her birthday. On ITV’s Good Morning Britain this week, Adil Ray noted that Harry would “miss the Queen’s birthday”. It was met by what many have interpreted as a sarcastic response from Reid, who detailed that the royal just turned “95” and flatly stated “Happy birthday”.

The 50-year-old followed her comment by noting it was “the first time in her reign” – which has lasted for 69 years – that it would be spent “without her husband”.

Prince Philip died on April 9 at the age of 99, and during his decades of service to the Royal Family he carried out 22,219 solo engagements and made 5,493 speeches.

Royal commentator Russell Myers claimed Harry’s “tight schedule” prevented him from being able to spend the day with the Queen.

The decision, which has attracted some scrutiny, comes six weeks before his wife Meghan is due to give birth to their second child.

Following the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh last weekend, Reid took to Twitter to pay respect the late royal.

She said everything about the procession “was moving” and felt it was an apt “honour” for a “man who had lived well for a century”.

Reid continued: “The nation’s silence. The gun salute. The choir. The mourners distanced. The Queen alone.

“Echoes of other funerals and other families, especially in this difficult year.”

But the niceties didn’t seem to last for long after Reid’s alleged swipe at Harry this week.

In the past, the TV star has been a staunch defender of the Sussexes and clashed with her former co-star Piers Morgan over his brash opinions.

The 56-year-old famously stormed off Good Morning Britain and quit last month after being called out for remarks he made about Meghan.

One week before Piers’ departure, he branded Reid a “lapdog” for her supporting the Sussexes.

He argued the couple didn’t need her to “defend them” because they already have “their prime time spots”.

Piers referred to their interview with Oprah Winfrey and vast social media following to broadcast to.

Reid responded: “Can you just not be rude? Thank you very much.”

She stated “legitimate debate” was “absolutely fine” but “personal insults” from Piers were “entirely unnecessary”.

The ITV presenters regularly clashed over differing opinions about Meghan and Harry since the couple announced their departure from senior royal roles.

But even in previous years, the Good Morning Britain stars have disagreed over the Sussexes.

The day before the royal wedding in 2018, one viewer commented that the “chemistry” between Piers and Reid was “pure television gold”.

On Twitter, they wrote: “Gets better by the week, entertaining way to start the day.”

Reid responded to the tweet, which was signed off with “#TVGold”, and said: “And yet he wants to replace me with Meghan Markle.”

Her post, which featured a teary-eyed emoji, was shared with her Twitter followers – now more than 826,000 – and was liked by nearly 500 people.

Some Good Morning Britain fans rallied behind Reid and one claimed Piers would “still be moaning” if she quit the show.

They tweeted: “He’d be begging for you to come back if you left!”

A second wrote: “Love the way you can transmit to the audience at times disbelief in what Piers says with the raising of an eyebrow, TV gold!”

A third quipped: “Shhhh… let him go behind Harry’s back, then when he’s in the tower you can get Matt Johnson or someone to co-host with you.”

Another, who appeared to take Piers’ side, replied: “To be fair you would happily replace him for Prince Harry!”

Susanna Reid stars in Good Morning Britain, which airs from 6am on weekdays on ITV.
