Shirley Ballas, 61, was left in total shock after her friends threw her a huge surprise party for her 61st birthday. The Strictly Come Dancing judge was overwhelmed as she shed tears of joy that 30 of her close friends had helped to make the day as special as possible.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday evening, Shirley documented a few moments throughout the day, penning a moving caption alongside the series of photographs and videos.

She wrote: “I was so overwhelmed yesterday that my darling friend @karenmarcus1960 put on a first class surprise birthday party for my 61st.

“Over 30 friends all seated to share time and make beautiful memories.

“Karen you went beyond the moon and back and I was truly in awe.”

She was beyond elated that her 83-year-old mum Audrey, made it to the party too.

“My mum made it down and Danny came for one day to share time,” she beamed.

“So many friends came to wish me well. So many beautiful flowers.

“My son and my beautiful daughter in law couldn’t make it, but they sent me the biggest bouquet of flowers and a very touching card.”

The former dancer admitted she shed a “tear of two” as her loved ones gathered to celebrate her big day.

“So many messages from around the world from people I’ve met, to people I’ve helped in their journey the messages and poems where touching,” she continued.

“I felt very very special. To all my friends and fans a huge thank you for taking time to think of me.

“I’ll carry these memories forever and ever.”

She signed off her post with an important motto: “Life is short so to all enjoy every moment.”

Fans watched as she gave them a little tour of the garden venue, equipped with a beautifully laid table, bunting and fresh flowers galore.

In more footage, a stunning cake was brought out as guests clapped and cheered.

Recently, Shirley revealed she’s made plans to delay her surgery for a benign growth in her shoulder until after Christmas, in a bid to not miss her Strictly responsibilities.

The BBC favourite explained in a new interview that she is concerned about the long recovery process.

“The hospital contacted me this morning because they want me to go in for surgery,” she said, before adding: “But my question is: how long is the recovery?”

Shirley also opened up about the removal of her DD implants and being told the procedure she needs is “immensely painful”.

She continued to The Sun: “I had my boobs out on a Tuesday and I went back to work on a Saturday, but somebody told me that [this procedure] is immensely painful so I need to do more research before I commit to it.”

The professional dancer had previously addressed her reasons for undergoing breast surgery, speaking on ITV’s Lorraine two years ago: “I just decided for health reasons for me I was going to take them out.

“My mother’s elder sister got cancer, then my mother got cancer, then as we speak my mother’s sister is in hospital in critical but stable condition after an operation for cancer.”
