Safiyya Vorajee’s ‘goosebumps’ over ‘special’ lion pendant in honour of daughter Azaylia

Safiyya Vorajee has revealed she had "goosebumps" when she first saw the lion pendant she designed in honour of her daughter Azaylia.

Safiyya and former partner Ashley Cain tragically lost their eight month old daughter Azaylia following an arduous battle with leukaemia in April 2021.

The grieving parents have fought tirelessly to help other families and children fighting cancer with The Azaylia Foundation, which captures Azaylia's spirit with the "little lion" logo.

Safiyya has now worked with Abbott Lyon on her second collection to raise awareness of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and to release a "special" lion pendant with "Let's Go Champ" engraved on the back.

Talking about her reaction when she first saw the lion pendant, with 100% of sales going to the The Azaylia Foundation, Safiyya exclusively told OK!: "It gave me goosebumps and it brought warmth to my heart.

"Knowing that it's going to help the children and people actually get a piece of jewellery to wear proudly to support such an incredible foundation is just really beautiful to know.

"It's all come from my beautiful daughter Azaylia, she's making a difference and a change in this world."

Speaking about the design process, Safiyya added: "Oh my gosh, I love this part. It is really nice because I feel like we've really levelled up this time with our in house team and the fact that I've been able to work really closely to create the exclusive lion pendant.

"It's just been really special to get involved, to know that it's actually been me that has been behind the process of saying yay or nay to all the different designs that come in, it's been really nice.

"On this pendant, we've got a 'Let's Go Champ' engraved at the back. So the people that buy it, they can wear the foundation's mission close to their heart."

This is Safiyya's second time working with Abbott Lyon – her first collection, which released The Azaylia Foundation Necklace, "sold out within the day", and Safiyya has said it's important to turn her "pain into purpose".

Safiyya said: "It feels really empowering to be able to do a second collection, knowing that it's helping the children and the funds are going to help advance early diagnosis and bringing new treatments to the UK."

She added: "Do you know what's been really nice about it? Is the fact that so many people have actually worn that necklace [The Azaylia Foundation Necklace].

"They're facing their own battles in hospital and other people and families have been wearing them in hospital, which is really touching to know that they're wearing Azaylia's name and her supporting the other children."

Safiyya continued: "I work every single day on The Azaylia Foundation, I'm here to do collaborations, raise as many funds as possible to keep giving the children the money that they need."

She added: "To know that I am the voice for the voiceless, it's just really inspiring to know that!"

The philanthropist added that she has "no filter" when it comes to campaigning for children battling cancer, insisting: "I don't have no filter when it comes to these children and what daily battles they face.

"And because I was there with Azaylia and see how hard and brave she fought every single day, there is no filter for me when it comes to these children.

"And no matter what environment I'm in, no matter who I'm faced against, I always make sure that I express the welfare and the battle that these children face. It's a huge passion.

"When you've got so much pain, every single day, I try and turn it into purpose as much as I can. And if I could jump on them rooftops and scream as loud as I can, then I would do that every day for these kids."

As well as her second collection, The Azaylia Foundation, which has "donated close to half a million in donations", is celebrating its one-year anniversary.

Safiyya said of the milestone: "It gives me goosebumps, to think that my daughter has inspired and changed so many people's lives already. It's beautiful. Out of such a painful situation, we will always carry her name forward.

"We want to make The Azaylia Foundation so strong and powerful that it goes beyond our years of living. And that's when you know that you've created a purpose and I feel like that's my purpose here now."
